Chronos iDock has a wealth of bedside alarm functions including four independent alarms, each of which can be set for weekdays only, weekends only or as a one-off. And you can choose to wake to DAB digital radio, FM, a simple tone alarm or even your iPod.

For added visual comfort, the light sensor adjusts the display brightness to suit the ambient light in your room. Handy front-panel connectors enable you to connect another iPod, MP3 player or portable CD player through the stereo speakers and to connect headphones.

A sleep timer allows you to drop off to your favourite station and the all-important snooze button is easy to find, with an adjustable snooze time for an extra lie-in when you deserve it.

For the ultimate in convenience, Chronos iDock is supplied with its own infrared remote control so you can operate all of the main functions and features as well as browse and play tracks stored on your iPod when it is docked, even if the radio is on the other side of the bedroom.

    I've had a PURE Chronos iDock for about a week. In a nutshell, the unit does what it is supposed to. However, I have some reservations: First, out of the box, the unit feels very light, and hence cheap. This is borne out by the sound quality, which is good, but not as good as other PURE products I have tried. The lightness of the unit also causes a practical problem: if you try to push the buttons on the front with one finger (as one might while in bed) the unit tends to slide backwards. The unit comes with a box containing 5 or 6 adaptors to allow various versions of the ipod to fit into the slot on top of the unit. For amusement, I tried inserting all of these and found that most didn't seat properly in the slot provided. Despite pushing hard, all but one "pinged" back out again. In my case, I have the new iPod Nano (no adapter is provided by REAL), which came with its own adapter from Apple. Oddly, this did fit properly in the slot. Basically, this means that the adapters provided by PURE have not been made properly, although the slot on the unit has. Other minor irritations: 1) There is a large snooze button along the top of the unit. However, turning the alarm OFF is less easy 2) You can asign channels on the DAB radio to presets. However, you can't select a preset channel without pressing several buttons. This means its usually faster just to hop to the channel directly. So why 4 stars? Because it is 90% there, and because it is more than adequate as a bedside unit where the volume will only ever be low-ish anyway. It's small, it looks good and the remore control means that I rarely have to use the buttons on the front. The fact that it comes in white (unlike the alternatives) also means that it will not show up every spec of dust.

    In line with other comments, yes, it is a little light and the sound is average but as a bed side unit that would be Ok. The one problem with mine is that there is a low whining buzz on all inputs which is clearly audible at low to medium volumes. This is a real failing for a bedside radio as the volume you listen at tends to be low and hence the buzzing very noticable. looking on the net it is clear i am not the only person with this problem.

    Have since identified problem occures when you set the display brightness to anything other than fully bright or fully dim. Anything inbetween causes the buzzing

    I received the iDock as a present, replacing an ancient analogue clock radio. Comparatively it's way, way more complex! Features I particularly like are:

    * Auto-dimming clock (pity it only works in 'sleep' mode and not when the unit is active),
    * Automatic clock setting - no more fiddling about to set the time
    * Multiple alarms - we slept-in 2 hours the first Saturday!
    * Wake to some one thing, sleep to another
    * Adjustable sleep time

    The sound quality is pretty good, I think. No it's not hifi but it's only 9" -er- triangular. Others have mentioned the weight and the button pushing - easily solved by 2 blobs of blu-tak. Deciding which button to press when is a bit mind-blowing, especially as the remote has a different layout, so I am learning iPod, iDock and iDock remote all at once. The idents don't light up so if you can't remember what's where it's bedside light time and a nudge in the ribs from the other half.

    But by far the most iritating shortcoming is the low-volume whistle/buzz. I swear it was not present out-of-the-box but is very noticeable when playing playing quiet music quietly, which is something I like to do in the bedroom. This fits with what other reviewers have said so I'll try and get something out of Pure.
