Video Description

In the not-too-distant future, evil alien Transformer robots, known as Decepticons, invade New York City to interrupt a world conference attended by the brilliant scientist Dr. Onishi and the brightest scholars, artists and politicians on Earth. Their mission - to kidnap the group of luminaries and use their expertise to assist their leader, Megatron, in his quest to rule the universe!

As the evil Decepticons invade the conference, Dr. Onishi's young son, Yuki, watches in shock in Japan as the events unfold before his eyes on television. But his desperate attempts to contact his father are futile... until his cries for help are intercepted by the ultra-cool Autobots!

A heroic team of Transformer car robots, the Autobots have disguised themselves as regular vehicles, patrolling Earth's highways in anticipation of a Decepticon attack. Now, Optimus Prime, a feisty Autobot disguised as a fire truck, assures Yuki that he will do whatever it takes to save his father, and takes him via the Cyber Net, a secret state-of-the-art highway system that unites the seven continents, to New York City.

Season One contains episodes 1 to 20.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than expected, 22 Mar 2008
I ordered this and season 2 just recently, they arrived just over a day ago and I've watched both seasons now. The new box style is familiar to the old video tape style, though a little bigger.
Both seasons have three discs and the only extras are small profiles of most of the cast of RID. There's a total of 39 episodes, a few being clip shows.

It's a silly, endearing series that doesn't take itself very seriously. Skybyte is perhaps one of the most pitiful villians ever, he tries so hard to be evil, but he just comes out as funny and someone who you soon come to feel sorry for.
The animation is clearly a low form of Anime, yet it quite nice, although the constant transformation sequences can be annoying. There are plenty of moments when you can't help but wonder just what the writers for the series were thinking, or drinking.

So all in all, it's worth getting, it's not a perfect series, but the box sets are nicely done and the series has an endearing quality to it that makes it hard to hate. Perfect for kids and adults alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars A big improvement, 1 Nov 2007
I never liked the old packs, they looked a bit naff... but I really like the new artwork, gives it a nice modern feel and actually feels like it's had some effort put into it. Looks great on the shelf and the series ain't half bad either ;-)
