Product Description

An outrageous comedy about poltergeists, disco queens and short circuiting foam machines. Young, beautiful and in love, Marc (Clovis Cornillac) and Emma (Julie Depardieu) move into the house of their dreams, a magnificent old mansion that has been uninhabited for thirty years. What Emma and Marc don t know is that in the 1970 s, the basement was a gay nightclub. One night thirty years ago, when the revellers were in full swing, an electrical fault with the foam machine started a fire that destroyed the club. Five bodies are never found. Today the house is haunted by the ghosts of five gay, mischievous clubbers. The problem is that Marc can see them, and Emma can t. Cracks start to appear in their relationship as Emma watches the man that she loves become increasingly obsessed by visions of naked men and clubbers in 70 s disco gear, dancing to Boney M . But when Marc looses his job and Emma walks out on him, who s he going to call but the sex-starved spooks themselves! Can the Poltergays save their man, his marriage and still strut their stuff?

Synopsis

Young lovers Marc and Emma move into a new home to discover that it is haunted by the spirits of five gay men that perished in a fire that took place in an underground disco, beneath their house. However, only Marc can see the spectres and his Emma grows tired of his elaborate stories and moves out. The ghosts unite with Marc in a bid to get her back in this camp and zany comedy horror.

As a couple move into their dream hoem, they are unaware that it used to be a gay nightclub in the 70's and during a freak electrical fault during a foam party, 6 queens died and now haunt the house. But only certain people can see them.

Seriously I giggle just describing it to friends!

This film is fun and camp. A perfect night in movie.

The basic story line is why can only some people see the ghosts? Marc (Clovis Cornillac) is the center of their attention, and although just moved in with his girlfriend suddenly thinks that he might be gay sending him to a psychologist for diagnosis and cure.

This movie does feature a vast amount of stereotypes and it is likely that some may find it more offensive than funny, however I wasn't one of them.

Towards the end it gets a little confusing, and I had to watch it twice before the whole thing made total sense but I enjoyed it the second time as well so it wasn't a hardship.

However, the bonus for me is Clovis Cornillac! Wow oh wow. A household name in France and currently playing Asterix in a new live version, this actor is brilliant and extremely good looking IMHO. Strangely the only way to describe is a that of a very hot Jack Dee! I know I know, it sounds wrong, but trust me once you see him you'll see what I mean.

This movie is normally sold at quite a low price and I would recommend you to buy it, as you'll certainly enjoy it.

I saw the French version of this movie, but I see from the description it says it is English.

I found it quite amusing. The description really says it all. Only certain people can see the camp ghosts and there is a slight mystery as to why that is.

Anyway, not much else to say, but this is good if you want to have a bit of light comedy relief.

If this film had been produced in the 70's or 80's then it might be just about acceptable. The entire venture is a set of variations on the aren't queers funny/tragic theme. Apart from just being a bad film it actually has a continuous undertow of homophobia. This inconsequential effort might be OK if you're straight, you might even find it funny. If you're gay; prepare to be irritated or even offended, just don't expect the gay characters to be presented as valid people, the creators certainly don't seem to think they are.
