As a tribute to one of tv's best loved and longest running dramas, this is a very neat little presentation of the past 35 years. However it's a bit top-heavy concerning the last five years or so. If you have not seen the series since beginning of time-it will be a bit hard to follow such episodes as Marksmen at Home Farm or Kim Tate flees Home Farm, The Storm etc. But for a hard-core fan of the show-this is a brilliant piece of Emmerdale history and also a nice way to remember great characters no longer with us- such as Seth Armstrong and Clive Hornby in the role of Jack Sugden (such a gentle and down to earth character now that the creators have seen fit to mix in a bit too much americanized plots and OTT characters)the last remaining character from the very first episode (even though it was then played by a different person!).
I do not personally think that the episode Nicola jilts Carlos is THAT memorable-and would much have preferred Charitys wedding to Chris Tate, but that's my preference, maybe not yours.
All in all- a great piece of contemporary television history and a good collection to spend a day in bed with-come flu season...

I have fond memories of watching 'Emmerdale' in the '90s, and into the early 2000s. I loved the everyday antics of evil Kim Tate and those dodgy old rascals The Dingles, laughing at their poaching habits. So, I was expecting to see lots of it in this 'Best Of' set, released to mark the 35th anniversary. Unfortunately, there isn't much of it at all.

It's not a bad compilation though, and twelve episodes across two discs is good value for money. Anything from the 1970s and 1980s is omitted, and the drama opens up with the first and second episodes of the infamous Plane Crash of December 1993, which marked a huge change in the show, and paved the way for the 'Emmerdale' I loved.

I would liked to have seen the gripping episodes when Kim stood and laughed as her husband Frank died, and Chris Tate committing suicide to frame his wife Charity, not to mention some Steph Stokes, played by Lorraine Chase, but they aren't here. Instead, we are given the classic Kim Tate exit (brilliant choice, which would have left me very surprised had it not be included), Jack and Sarah's wedding, the post office robbers being caught, the Bus Crash episode of 2000, Nicola jilting Carlos, Zoe Tate being sectioned, the gripping killing of Ray by his barmaid girlfriend Louise, 'The Storm', Home Farm blowing up, and Alice Dingle's Euthanasia pact.

So, a lot of disappointing absences for me, but I did enjoy a lot of what the guys at Network put together. It's a good buy, but like most Network releases, there are no special features or subtitles. Life in the Dales, it's never boring!
