Product Description

Description

Like cowboy hats and political scandal, John Fogerty is a timeless American tradition. Ever since he led Creedence Clearwater Revival to their status as America's first great heartland rock band, John Fogerty has been the musical equivalent of Henry Fonda, Gary Cooper, and JFK rolled into one. Through CCR's breakup and his subsequent solo career, Fogerty's music has adhered to its original template of swampy blues-rock with splashes of country/folk twang, and 2007's REVIVAL is no exception.
Even after four decades of recording, Fogerty's voice sounds remarkably fresh and unchanged. The sound that emanates from the opening cut, "Don't You Wish it Was True", is as pure and unsullied as the utopian wish conveyed by the lyrics. And for a man who spent years refusing to play his back catalog and enduring litigation over his old band's material, it's interesting to hear him acknowledge hispast so wholeheartedly; on the sly "Creedence Son "his guitar teases old CCR licks, and "I Can't Take it No More" references "Fortunate Son". By playing to his strengths and reeling out bluesy, rootsy riffs and belting in his patented salty-but-sweet manner, Fogerty reiterates his continued status as an American musical icon.

5.0 out of 5 stars John Fogerty's best album, 7 Oct 2007
By Makkari (Helsinki, Finland) - See all my reviews
I rarely like every song on an album when I first hear them, but on Revival every song is at least good, most are excellent and great. I'm a big John Fogerty fan, and would probably not rate any of his albums very low, but this one is just special. In my opinion it is better than Centerfield and even Blue Moon Swamp as well as most of the Creedence albums. Revival might well be John Fogerty's best work ever.

The country rock of "Gunslinger", the autobiographical country ballad "Broken Down Cowboy", the hopefully choogling "Don't you wish it was true", the hilarious, bluesy and rocking political satire "Long Dark Night", the other blues rock song "Somebody Help Me", the spiritual "River is Waiting" featuring a great B.B. King style guitar solo and the AC/DCish Longshot all add to an impressive blend of different styles of American roots-rock.

Fogertys voice sounds great, the lyrics are some of his best and sharpest and the band is tight and rocking. 62-year-old John Fogerty delivers one of his very best and most rocking albums ever. Revival is a must have for anyone who likes Creedence Clearwater Revival or John Fogerty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deja Vu all over again, 9 Oct 2007
Despite the obvious connection with the past and the Album Title plus the similarity with the cover photography from his previous "Blue Ridge Rangers" project. This represents a real return to form and possibly his best solo offering since the first "John Fogerty" Album.

Revival it most certainly is but that in essence is probably exactly what most of his fans want to hear. C.C.R. Revisited. The problem with Creedence is that it all ended much too soon in acrimonious circumstances betweeen the Band Members and the Record Label Fantasy. It`s taken all this time for John Fogerty to come to terms with the demons of his past and release a complete Album worthy of his considerable talents as a song writer and performer.

It`s very hard to select stand out tracks from this twelve song set. They'll all pretty damn good. However, "Long Dark Night" really kicks in hard. "Summer of Love" reminds listeners of C.C.R.`s appearence at the Woodstock Festival in 1969 and "I can`t take it no more" is a frantic outcry against the Bush Regime and more specifically The War in Iraq. But it is "Creedence Song" which gives the whole Album the feeling of Deja Vu perspective. On a personal note I have recently considered J.F.'s Live set lists to show too much adherence to the C.C.R. Song Book when his own material stands up well and deserves greater opportunity for a Live airing.

Nothing currently available including the new Boss Album is much better than this. Good Time Rock 'N' Roll played with heart and sang with Soul. Welcome back with a vengence Foggy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock music at its best, 29 Oct 2007
By Musicfan "barwill1999" (Somerset, UK) - See all my reviews

I liked Creedencee Clearwater Revival since I heard Bad Moon Rising. Fogerty was the voice and creative force of creendence clearwater Revival and since he went solo he has released some really great albums. One of my all time favourites being Blue Moon Swamp....which is brilliant. This is his first release for many years and it revisits the sound of Creedence on many of the tracks. His music is a mix of rock, rock n roll, blues and country and it is a great mix. Highlights include Don't you wish it was true, broken down cowboy, gunslinger. However, no bad songs here. He is in great voice. This is a great rock album with great sounds which should be played loud. One of the releases of the year. Thoroughly enjoyable. If you like Creedence or CCCR you will enjoy this. Blue Moon Swamp remains my favourite but this runs it very close. Well worth buying. Highly recommended.
