First of all let me address all fans of this film, if you dont know it already this dvd is totally uncut featuring all of Tom Savini's SFX in their entirety for the first time, which has been a long time coming for all of us. The cuts were made to three murder scenes ( a guy being beheaded by a meat cleaver whilst watching shockwaves!, another guy being a stabbed in the throat and a particularly nasty throat slitting and its lingering aftermath ) in order to avoid the X rating in the USA, but now in the days of hostel etc. its hard to see what the fuss is about, all the same its great that these sequences have now finally seen the light of day. The picture quality is also a vast improvement over the old warner videotape, its just a shame there are no extras as a commentary wouldve been nice and the cover art is a bit of a letdown, not a patch on the 2 warner uk video covers.

To those new to the film I would recommend it highly, much better than Friday the 13th and other films of its ilk. Director Weiderhorn (shockwaves) takes what couldve easily been just another slasher film and constructs what is a very frightening and tightly edited suspense thriller, albeit a bloody and violent one!. John DiSanti is superb as the killer delivering a memorably chilling and menacing performance that reminds me of Raymond Burr in Rear Window and Jennifer Jason Leigh is excellent as the deaf, dumb and blind girl.

I remember my mother being particularly disturbed by this film when we rented it on video years ago and leaving a very bad taste in her mouth 'not the kind of film an 8 year old boy should be watching' so if thats not a recommendation to you i dont know what is!

directed by ken wiederhorn(shockwaves, return of the living dead) this is a
good example of an 80s slasher.jennifer jason leigh looks about 16 in this as a deaf & blind girl.lots of scares, crazy phone calls,a bloke gets
his head cut off whilst watching shockwaves & more nasty shocks along the way! if you like films like "he knows youre alone" & "when stranger calls"
this is for you,i was surprised this is uncut, well done warner bros !

Jennifer Jason Leigh and Lauren Tewes star in this very good and effective horror/thriller film. Despite being made by the same production company behind the first Friday The 13th movie, Eyes Of A Stranger isn't quite the typical slasher movie cash-in you'd expect despite being made during the early 80's where stalk `n' slash movies seemed to be coming out almost every week, the script doesn't have the typical slasher movie plot devices that have a bunch of amateur actors that get killed off by a serial killer but it attempts to make the movie more of a mystery thriller than an outright slaughter fest. It's a more interesting approach to the sub-genre but it does slow the movie's pace a tiny bit which might explain why this is one of the lesser known horror/slasher film.

A small community in Miami is transformed into a group of terrified residents when a gruesome series of sex murders continues unchecked. Police investigations seem to lack urgency, and Jane (Lauren Tewes) a local television news reporter appeals to viewers to pass on useful information to herself. Jane's boyfriend asks her to move in with him, but she is more concerned with protecting her blind and deaf-mute sister Tracy (Jennifer Jason Leigh) with whom she is living with. Tracy's condition is rooted in a childhood trauma when she was raped and left for dead. Tracy was abducted as a child, she was raped and left for dead after she had made her wait from outside her house alone (the abduction is shown in a creepy flashback sequence) which left her in shock to the point where she has become blind and deaf. Completely by chance Jane begins to suspect her weird neighbor Stanley Herbert (John De Santi) of the killings after she spies on him changing shirts in the parking lot.

I was very happy to finally see this get a release on DVD. I have wanted to see it for years and years and it's great that a new generation get to know what all the fuss was about. Jennifer Jason Lee was great in one of her first film roles playing a mute girl and the film had a good amount of suspense and special effects in it. 80s horror fans will enjoy it.

Eyes of a Stranger may well be the most awful slasher movie I've ever seen. And I'm a fan. First up- if you thought you knew who the killer was, would you A- go to the police, or B sneak into killers flat to find more evidence (by the way you live right opposite them). The acting is borderline, though gorehounds (yes I am one of them) will be impressed with what is on offer.

The film feels like a TV movie which is its biggest problem. The killer played by John DiSanti is ok. A very predictable movie and also contains a huge goof. Watch for the would be rape scene near the end. He clearly rips her white top off. But hey ho there it is back on seconds later. I'm not usually a stickler for goofs, every movie has em' but this one was so bad it became so noticebale.

Shocking that some horror sites have this in their top 25 slashers of all time.
