DVD Description

The Peep Show – Series 1-4 DVD box set encompasses the entire collection of "Peep Show" episodes. This award-winning comedy follows the inner lives of two very ordinary weirdoes--the aimless waster and wannabe musician Jeremy (Robert Webb), and Mark (David Mitchell), a socially awkward 50 year-old trapped in the body of a twenty-something. What stands out about "Peep Show" is its finely honed script and strong lead performances by the show's creators, David Mitchell and Robert Webb. The fact that viewers are able to hear the innermost thoughts of Mark and Jez as they encounter various problems makes their characters all the more vulnerable and sympathetic. The result is a well-observed comedy for anyone who spends life at the mercy of their own hesitant thoughts (...and who doesn't?).

Synopsis

Mark Corrigan and Jeremy 'Jez' Osborne are always caught up in some form of malaise, constantly at each other's throats as they struggle to find a direction in life. Jez has unrealistic aspirations of becoming a musician, while Mark is stuck in an interminable office job, where the object of his affections--co-worker Sophie--is the only thing keeping him sane. Racked by nerves and insecurity, the lengths Mark goes to in order to impress Sophie often leave her in a state of bewilderment. The Peep Show – Series 1-4 box set includes episodes from all four series of the award-winning comedy.

Series 1: After being thrown out by his ex-girlfriend, Jeremy--an egotistical wannabe pop star--moves in with his socially-backward college friend Mark. While Jeremy lives in awe of his idiotic mate, Super Hans, and their beautiful but brittle neighbour Toni, Mark is in hot pursuit of the love of his life, co-worker Sophie.

Series 2: Mark finds an obstacle in the way of his quest for office crush Sophie’s love, in the form of his macho rival, Jeff. Meanwhile, Jeremy has fallen madly in love with a confused Californian Christian named Nancy, and embarks on a visa wedding which he hopes will be 'the happiest administrative procedure of their lives'.

Series 3: Jeremy tries to get over his disastrous marriage to Nancy by embarking on a series of ill-fated relationships with women--one of whom is Mark’s sister. In the meantime, Mark has finally managed to start dating Sophie--only to discover she’s being relocated to Bristol!

Series 4: Having proposed by accident to Sophie, Mark now faces the horror of having to actually go through with the wedding. Or will he...? And when Jeremy's beautiful ex-'visa wife' Nancy unexpectedly turns up again, how far will he go to win her back?

5.0 out of 5 stars The Only Show Were You'll See Your REAL LoveLife Up On Screen!, 1 Jan 2008

When most people think of The Peep Show, they tend to focus on the POV (point-of-view) camerawork were the audience sees everything through the eyes of the characters. Granted, this does make the show very unique, but it would be a crime if this made people overlook how intelligent, true-to-life and downright funny this show is. It's certainly one of the best British TV shows ever made. It deserves the acclaim and global recognition of something like The Office.

The way the grey areas of relationships is articulated and made light of is incredible. All the secret thoughts, anxieties, and dysfunctional behaviour that we all go through with the opposite sex is laid bare in every episode. The only other show that comes close to shining a light on these intangible grey areas of life and love is maybe Seinfeld, which isn`t as stuffy, inhibited and British as The Peep Show. Take the relationship of Mark and Sophie as a prime example. This isn't your typical King Of Queens, Mad About You, Chandler and Monica sit-com couple who have their ups and downs but basically love each other. Mark has such contempt for Sophie and feels completely trapped in the relationship. I've been there -- and I'm sure there are many, many other people out there who have also been stuck with someone they don't really want ... until of course that person dumps them! As Mark says to Jeremy in Series 4: "So now she's finished with you, suddenly you're in love with her again." As if Mark is the stupidest person alive, Jeremy says: "Exactly. DUR! That's how love works, Mark."

Absolutely brilliant. Buy this show now! ... Although with Series 5 currently being made, you may want to wait until the Series 1 to 5 boxset comes out if you`re looking to buy every Peep Show in one go.

you either take life far too seriously or you have no sense of humour. Have a good think about it.

Gloriously dark, farcical and rude. Laugh out loud hilarity in every episode.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gods of the small screen, 6 Nov 2008
Simply the funniest series ever. Don't mess about, you need to buy this. Cringe making, but also laugh out loud moments aplenty unlike the overrated (although good) Office and Extras. Just a shame that Mitchell and Webb's own material can't get close to this.

Genius.
