Product Description

'They came from the grave to rock 'n' rave and misbehave' runs the tagline for this 1980s comedy horror cult classic, starring EJ Curcio as Jesse, lead singer in a heavy metal band that plays small clubs and socials while waiting for its big break. Although they are warned about playing in Grand Guignol owing to the less-than-hospitable locals, the band members ignore the warning and the locals are soon conspiring with werewolves, killer dwarves and murderous psychopaths to murder them one by one. But a local girl's chant brings the band back from the dead to take revenge on the killers and play their finaluinperformed concert - and soon the entrie town is crawling with zombies. The townspeople have no choice but to offer up a virgin for sacrifice, but luckily the re-animated Hard Rock Zombies step in to save the girl and the day.

This is quite possibly the most random, riciculous film I've ever seen. It's sick and twisted, but absolutely hysterical. There are some twists in it which are so bizarre, unexpected and politically incorrect that you can't help but roll around laughing. If you want a film to take seriously, don't watch this film! But if you want something utterly insane, in an absurdly amusing way, this film is just right. It's just so... random!!!

A band travels to Grand Guignol to perform, except the town doesn't want them to perform. The town consists of odd individuals including midget cannibalistic Nazis. After the band is killed, buried, and becomes KISS looking zombies, I no longer know what the film is about.

The production was campy by design. The low budget produced visible microphone shadows and for some reason some of the swastikas were oriented backwards. The music isn't that great, the storyline idiotic, and the cheese lacked flavor.

Don't expect anything remotely good. Has some camp value, although I think the camp value is over rated. The DVD transfer quality was poor too.

This film sails right past “bad”, keeps on going past “so bad it’s good” and ends up flying over the cliff into “appalling”.

It was originally conceived as a movie within a movie- it’s the movie that the characters in the film “American Drive-In” go to the drive-in to watch. At some point somebody thought it would be a good idea to go the extra mile and turn “Hard Rock Zombies” into a fully fledged film in its own right. They were quite wrong.

There is a camp, kitsch value to it, with the combination of soft rock (calling it “hard rock” is a misnomer for sure), big hair, excessive denim and zombie make-up having plenty of novelty value- but sadly after twenty minutes the novelty has well and truly worn off. Even the sudden arrival of Hitler can’t revive things.

Other reviewers seem to appreciate the randomness of this movie, but I expected more. Plot-wise it’s a relatively simple idea stretched out too long. Long and barely audible exposition monologues pad it all out and a single “joke” will be stretched over several scenes. I’ve seen a greater number of original ideas packed into a 4-minute music video than there are in this film.

The acting is wooden and staid. Every set piece runs too long, and the whole thing could (and should) have been chopped down to 60 minutes without losing pretty much anything of value. The music- both the rock songs and the incidental music- is very poor, but not poor in a way that’s now funny; just poor.

The DVD transfer is poor too. There’s plenty of on-screen dust and picture wobble. The sound quality is awful- which is probably true of the original film, but the transfer certainly hasn’t helped. The DVD has nothing by the way of extras, but since you will struggle to even watch the 90 minutes of the movie itself, that’s no great loss.

It’s just awful, and not in a good way. Don’t waste your time.

This film has everything u;d ever need, 80s rock, zombies that look like their from Kiss, all the usual zombie gore, and maybe even an evil past dictator or two may just appear. I'd ordered my copy already, and for £5 its definetly one of those films that u'll all enjoy laughing (maybe at rather than with) at a party. Yeah sure the zombies walk like tin soldiers, and the editting looks like it was done using someones commodore 64 but these only add to the great experience that is: hard rock zombies!
