Product Description

Album Description
Formed in 2005, Kent, UK based BOSSK have quickly risen to
acclaimed recognition in the UK and further afield following their 2006
debut release, "1" , on the QnotQ label and extensive touring with
an impressive list of bands, including CULT OF LUNA, THE OCEAN, YNDI HALDA,
BARONESS, CAPRICORNS & THE HOPE CONSPIRACY.

"2" follows on from
where "1" left off, again largely instrumental, it kicks in with an
almost stoner rock like groove, seamlessly moving into their characteristic
rich ambient post-metal before climaxing with an upbeat vocal led
closure.

Mastered by Magnus Lindberg of CULT OF LUNA.

Artwork by Seldon
Hunt (NEUROSIS, ISIS, PELICAN).

3.0 out of 5 stars more good than average , 22 Oct 2007

following on from last years 1 by bossk,2 follows briskly in its steps, more of an ep than an album when you add this to the first ep then you get what would be closer to an album.
This release features two tracks,i cant find their names anywhere, they aint on cd on on the bands website so im guessing they can be called whatever you want,i refer to them, due to my vast imagination, song one and song two.
Song one is close to ten minutes in length and is slow and dark and with little light, fuzzy with regards to the bass distortion and veiled heaviness, the song is good but not great,a little forced i would say but still dependable enough,'pelican' like in style without ever reaching the majestic sounds of the americans.
The second track is a different story altogether,a more confident and dominant track featureing screams from sam marsh that would rip the doors of its hinges, its a very scorching track filled with emotion, venom and grit,'cult of luna' like but maybe evern heavier,a cracking song and that lasts close to 14 minutes.
This release features the band trying two things with two songs although the heartbeat is the same throughout but i feel that the second track is where they should be heading for,a mixed release then but more good than average.

5.0 out of 5 stars We're On To Another Winner., 31 Mar 2009

(REAL NAME)
Bossk return, but with something slightly different this time. Considering the fact that Bossk's second demo came two years after the first, it's probably no great surprise that there has been some alterations to their style. Although that might be the case, Bossk are still very much similar to how they used to be. I only acquired this demo recently, so I haven't had as much time to process the material as I did with the first demo. Is this better than the previous effort? No. Then is it worse than the previous effort? The answer, again, is no. Bossk are a very capable band, this effort shows that. With the way things appear to be heading, Bossk have a very solid future ahead of them.

So, what is Bossk's second demo all about then. Well, it's quite similar to what the aim was on the first demo. That doesn't signal a lack of determination to improve. To be fair, there wasn't much to improve upon when it comes to the first demo. The same could very well be said about this demo, in fairness. So, what about these slight alterations? Well, Bossk focus more on acoustics now than they did back when the first demo was released. Acoustics are usually pleasant to hear. I myself am a fan of acoustics, once they're used correctly. Bossk's musicianship was the central theme of the first demo and it's very much the same here. Musicianship is pivotal to any and every band. When it comes to Bossk, their musicianship is fantastic. They are extremely professional and know exactly what they want to achieve with their sound.

In terms of Bossk's style, it's very much the same to the first demo. A high priority is placed on achieving a professional sound and producing some mighty fine atmospheres. The addition of acoustics helps Bossk achieve a much more pleasant atmospheric sound. The first demo tended to lean towards the heavier side of sludge, but the second demo doesn't. Instead, it fluctuates. There are long passages of ambience, through the use of very progressive riffs by one guitarists and then there are long passages of heavy double bass beats and a lower sounding guitar. As with the first demo, Bossk's two guitarists are impressive. They work perfectly together. One creating a harmonious sound, which ebbs and flows alongside the other, who creates a heavier sound which plays nicely alongside the ever present bass.

Bossk's ability to fuse instruments together is brilliant. This creates much healthier soundscapes and the presence of ambient sounds is far more accessible on this demo than their previous one. As for vocals, they're just standard sludge vocals. They tend to come into play when the music is at it's heaviest, which shows a good understanding between the musicians. The vocals aren't particularly a necessity to Bossk, but they're a unique addition to their sound due to the fact that they might surprise the audience when they do play a part. There is a cleaner style of vocals used on this demo too. Which again indicates the innovative side to Bossk. This, as the first demo showed, is another sign of Bossk's potential.
