5.0 out of 5 stars A Pyrrhic Victory EP, 28 Jun 2007
By A. Macdonald (Birmingham, UK) - See all my reviews

6 Years since their last official release MV return. The CD offers 2 new tracks, an execellent cover and a remix of track 1.

War of the Worlds is a has been around for a while now, but is beefed up and sounds amazing, even pushing into Epic territory towards the end.

Lord knows how ive tried is a top quality slow song, and my bet is a heavier version will appear on the album.

The Toy Soldiers cover is another classic rework by MV, while the remix shows gives an up beat dance kick to the end of the record

Lets hope the new album hits shelves when they play the astoria.

Welcome back to a band who should be where Muse are now

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant return, 27 Jun 2007
By Mr. T. Dent (Kent, UK) - See all my reviews

I don't know if the other guy was listening to the same record I have. War of the Worlds was well worth the wait. Fantastic guitar sounds and an amazing chorus, which flows well with never a second of boredom. Easily one of their best tracks. Lord Knows How I've Tried slows things down with a song that a piano and moving singing. Toy Soldiers is more recognisable as MV, and an energetic cover. Finally, ElectroWar is a dramatic remix of the first track, going down (as the name suggests) the more electronic route the song could have gone, and works well. All in all a brilliant return, and cannot wait for more!

2.0 out of 5 stars 6 years and we get this?, 27 Jun 2007
By D. Babbage (Essex, UK) - See all my reviews

Firstly let me say I have been a My Vitriol fan since 2001 and like 1000's of other people have been very supportive and patient with the band and their management. That big question of 'When is the new album going to come out?' must send MV's blood pressure soaring.

So anyway 6 years down the line we come across the oddly titled 'Pyrrhic Victory Ep'. 4 tracks cheaply presented with a single front inlay/sleeve. 1 'original' track (which is in fact a good few years old and any MV fan who has the internet has probably already heard it 100's of times) and then 1 cover which doesn't really show off any qualities the band have, 1 reworking of a presumed new track and 1 remix. 'War Of The Worlds' is a monster of a song which is both huge sounding and beautiful, however.. it's nothing new for me personally. Been there, done that. Everything else on this EP is highly average and really doesn't push any buttons at all. Why not put some of the other tracks on there that we have heard at live shows? 'We've Lost Our Way' and So Damn Easy' are fantastically incredible pieces of music. I really hope they don't waste away.

It is frustrating being a MV fan, there online promotion and marketing are both terrible and unprofessional (even desperate at times) and they consistently seem to let their fans down, whether it be canceling shows, changing secret ones at immediate notice or keeping us waiting 6 years for a 2nd album.

Let us not forget the facts here, MV are an amazingly talented band and 'Finelines' is one of the finest things to come out of the last decade. Their live music and performance is of the highest quality. But for all the waiting, really this 'EP' is a load of rubbish. We have been listening to it's lead track for years and the rest is a waste of our time. The CD has been stacked on my shelf and I personally won't be digging it out at anytime soon.

A disappointed, unheard and frustrated member of the MV community.
