Product Description

Description

Prior to her 2007 self-titled effort, Paris-based singer-songwriter Keren Ann released several albums that found her refining a mixture of French chanson, rock, folk-pop, and dreamy ambience. That mixture was perfected on KEREN ANN, an enchanting collection of nine elegant tunes that drift over listeners like a fine sea breeze.
At the center of the albumis Ann's voice, which is that of a breathy chanteuse and begs comparisons to Feist, Bebel Gilberto, and Mazzy Star's Hope Sandoval. But while Ann's vocals are undeniably lovely, it's the subtle sophistication of the songs (which meld genres seamlessly) and the production (which is simple, yet beautifully textured) that makes this album a delight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keren's best album to date..., 30 Dec 2007
I love this album. It is a lot more varied than previous outings and easily keeps the listener interested throughout. I have no idea what Keren lsitens to hersef but influences appear to ooze from every track: Mazzy Star, Radiohead, Portishead, Bowie, Talking Heads, the Velvets and the J&MC perhaps some of them?? (in good company there then..). For me this is definitely one of the best albums of 2007, though it doesn't seem to have figured anywhere. A slow burner that will gain a wider audience over time??? Here's hoping...

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely, 21 Mar 2009

Just read the previous review and it is spot on. The album is definitely a 'slow burner'. I bought it July 2008 and it has grown on me with each listen right until now (March 2009). The song 'in your back' is a classic. If you want something mellow but varied which is full of pleasant surprises that reveal themselves over time, you will be rewarded. A gentle voice combined with great melodies. Think mellow Feist and Beth Gibbons.
