The Panasonic SC-PM45 is tidy, smart looking system and manages to cram in a lot of features including CD (it also plays CD-RW / CD-Rs ok), radio, cassette tape and, very usefully, USB functionality enabling you to play tracks from a USB memory stick. It also features a music port input so you can connect an MP3 player or other device and listen on the system - this is just a standard jack input.

The most irritating thing I've found about the system is the slight "hissing" sound when playing audio, which is most noticeable at low volume levels. The default EQ setting also seems to heavily emphasise the bass and treble, although this can be rectified by manually changing the EQ settings - both bass and treble can be increased or reduced independently.

When listening to MP3 tracks on USB pen, one disadvantage is that you can't fast forward or rewind them - only play them - and the machine doesn't display the information from ID3 tags, only the file name.

Overall, the sound quality is good, but I wouldn't recommend the system for anyone wishing to play music at relatively low volumes because of the background hiss, and if you're after a unit to play your music from USB pen you might prefer to look for one with more flexibility to fast forward and rewind tracks.

This Micro hifi system lives up to expectations, sounds really good for such a small system, so easy to use and easy on the eye too.
