Synopsis

Created by Donald Bellisario (JAG, Magnum P.I.), Airwolf was among the many action-adventure shows of the 1980s that garnered a cult following. Jan-Michael Vincent stars as the improbably named Stringfellow Hawke, a Vietnam veteran still troubled by the disappearance of his brother during the war. Secret government agent 'Archangel' (Alex Cord) approaches Hawke with a unique offer: to help him recover and then become the de facto pilot of the powerful, top-secret helicopter known as Airwolf. With that proposal the series begins chronicling Hawke's adventures, along with his sidekick Dominic (Ernest Borgnine) as pilot of the advanced aircraft. This release contains all the episodes from the third series.

Synopsis

Jan-Michael Vincent and Ernest Borgnine star in the cult favourite, Airwolf - although some might call "Airwolf" itself the star. The Emmy Award-winning series followed the dangerous missions of the high-tech helicopter, Airwolf, and it's renegade pilot, Stringfellow Hawke.

3.0 out of 5 stars The end of the road, 7 Aug 2007
By L. E. Stacey "lukestacey12" (Portsmouth, Hampshire) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)

This is the third season of Airwolf which started great (series 1), started to flounder (series 2) and was nearly completely shot by series 3. By this point series creator Donald Belisario had left (unhappy with the changes and series 2), so had Deborah Pratt (who had married Belisario in ine interim) . The budget had spiralled (resulting in more stock footage usage) and Jan-Michael Vincent was having very public personal problems. All this served as the nail in the and ratings plummeted, which matches the qulaity of the show. Unfortunately throughout series 2 and 3 it served to contradict series 1, the end result is a rather disjointed mess with very little connection to Series 1

The episodes are:

The horn of plenty
Airwolf 2
And a child shall elad
Fortune Teller
Crossover
Kingdom Come
Eagles
Annie oakley
Jennie
The deadly circle
Where have all the children gone
Half pint
Wildfire
Discovery
Day Of Jeopardy
Little Wolf
Desperate Monday
Hawke's run
Break in at Santa Paula
The girl who fell from the sky
Tracks
Birds of paradise

This was the final series for the original cast, with Airwolf: Series 4 being a total travesty, with only Jan-Michael vincent appearing right at the beginning to kill off his character (the series also didnt have access to the helicopter so all the footage for that series was series 1-3 stock).

As with series 1-3 there are no extras, and the title emnu and screens are identical to series 2 with just a change in colour. Of the 3 this series is the weakest of the lost (series 1 being the best), but is still worth buying just for the episode Airwolf 2 which sees airwolf battling Redwolf.

5.0 out of 5 stars The ultimate action season of the 1980s, 24 Nov 2007
By Mr. Mark J. Cairns "Mark J.Cairns" (Northern ireland, UK) - See all my reviews

Well, how many have dreamed of the day when all three CBS seasons of Airwolf were released on DVD... and the 3rd Season - until now - was the Holy Grail as it hadn't been released before. Packaged in some nice minimalist artwork continuing on from the previously-released style from the 1st and 2nd Season Box Sets there are, however still no extras which is a shame.

But even though this season had many "domestic" episodes to try to reign in the budget, the producers also produced some really superb spy (there's more Archangel this season than last) and hardware gems such as 'Airwolf II', 'Where Have All The Children Gone?", 'Fortune Teller', 'Day of Jeopardy', 'The Deadly Circle', and 'Kingdom Come' being the top episodes. The downside to the 3rd Season is that it contained two of the most universally hated scripts 'And A Child Shall Lead' and 'Tracks' which should have been give to the production team next door - KNIGHT RIDER.

Overall though, the action quotient in this season was well up on previous years and it produced some of the best melodic, synth music by composers Sylvester Levay and Udi Harpaz of the series in my opinion including the superlative chase music for 'Annie Oakley' and 'Hawke's Run'. To complement these three seasons of the show, you may be interested in the official digitally remastered re-release of the acclaimed Airwolf Themes soundtrack which has been released from late December 2007 on Apple iTunes... just Google 'Airwolf Themes' for full details from the official website.

3.0 out of 5 stars Almost But Not Quite, 25 Oct 2009
The lack of the Belisario "touch" is obvious.
Not at the same level as seasons 1 & 2.
Only for really die-hard "Airwolf" fans.
