4.0 out of 5 stars authentic action western larger than life adventure , 12 Aug 2006
By Michael Newett "movie buff" (chicago) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Stalking Moon [DVD] (DVD)
This is a great movie with eva marie saint playing a beaten woman captured by indians and peck a retiring army scout who ends up against his better judgement taking her and her indian son under his wing to new mexico and his dream retirement ranch. There he fights a life and death battle with the help of his half-breed army scout friend against saint's larger than life indian husband who seems unstoppable in his quest to recover his son. This is a real tense edge of your seat battle with real life scenes and tearful moments that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the eventful ending. Don't miss it.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE STALKING MOON (1968), 16 Nov 2008
Army scout Varner(Gregory Peck) leaves the army after 15 years. On his last raid amongst the indians, they discover Eva Marie Saint and her half-indian son. Gregory agrees to escort them. But they are relentlessly chased by the boys indian father wanting his son back and he kills many on the trail. The first half of the movie is filmed in desert wasteland and you can smell and taste the dust. The suspense gets deeper and when Gregory returns to his farm, the killer indian follows him there. The terror grows and there is tit-for-tat between the hunter and the hunted. The strength of the movie is the script, direction and excellent back-ground music which will have you whistling the tune by the end of the movie. Will the hunter succeed and kill the rest and have his boy back?
Watch and ENJOY.(Suki, ENGLAND. UK)

5.0 out of 5 stars "Gregory Peck Series ... The Stalking Moon (1968) ... Warner Bros.", 22 Sep 2008

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Warner Bros. presents "THE STALKING MOON" (25 December 1968) (109 mins/Colo) (Dolby digitally remastered) -- Our story line and plot, "The Stalking Moon", adapted from a novel by Theodore V. Olsen, opens in the Arizona of the Old West, as the U.S. calvary is in the process of relocating Native Americans to reservations --- As army scout Sam Varner (Gregory Peck) is mustering out and retire to a farm in New Mexico --- Varner takes pity on a white woman Sarah Carver (Eva Marie Saint) and her half-breed son recently rescued from indians, and invites them to join him. He does this even knowing the child's father is a feared and murderous Apache and that sooner or later a showdown is almost inevitable --- Gregory Peck is still a screen presence in middle age and impressive as the army scout --- The film has plenty of suspense, creepy shadows, and eerie noises in the dark and at times seems more like a mystery than a western --- Nick Tana (Robert Forster) is good as a member of Peck's party that he raised from childhood, who comes to his aid in fending off his enemy --- Most of the fighting and gun play occur at the film's end, and although the story takes its time getting there, the final scenes are exciting and would please any wrangler riding the trail to any good western --- One final word, this is Peck at his best.
