I've got SoT 06 and loved it, but found the CD1 of State of Trance 07 far too vocal and frankly like being slapped in the face by a huge piece of cheese. Not all the vocal tracks are cheesey, but the majority are. I like vocal trance but when it's vocal track after vocal track it gets tiresome. If you like vocal trance you will obviously like it - it's up to you but that's my own personal preference.

The mixing can't be faulted as you would expect from a studio mix that is no doubt done using Ableton. If you're an AVB fan you'll buy it and be completely unobjective about it like the reviews above. For people who like other genres and other trance DJs (mainstream and not) I would not give it 5 stars, based purely on CD1.

Any of you who have read my reviews of SoT 2005 and 2006 will understand my liking for the previous SoT albums that Mr Buuren has produced for us. Unsurprisingly, his talent has shone through with the 2007 version of the same name which is, of course, a truly sensational blend of the best trance music around.
You have to bear in mind with these albums that is not just the content that is important, it is the craft and the way in which each song is fitted together. The latter aspect Armin Van Buuren has got spot on, and his fantastic mixing skills make this album what it is. He has chosen every remix and song with meticulous detail and put them in an order that flows brilliantly.
As with '06, we have one album entitled 'On The Beach' and the other as 'In The Club,' and for those of you who own '06 you will appreciate how accurate the split in the two CD's was. The same can be said here - on the first cd, you can picture yourself sitting in a hot, tropical environment with the waves crashing against the shore, listening to the tracks playing on cd01. Then the sunsets and we go indoors to a harder and more uplifting trance atmosphere. I actually do not feel that in '07 there are quite as many 'stand-out' tracks as there are in '06 and '05; what I mean by that is that hardly any tracks stand out as my ultimate favourites, but in a way this is good - you are spoilt for choice and you never get bored with any of them. This said, I am not bored with '05 yet and am never likely to be.
Trance lovers enjoy this stunning piece of artwork for what it is, and revel in the fact that those of us who still appreciate this less-popular music genre for what it is have yet another quality album to add to our collection.

I would say Im a true trance fan. I buy the music and go to the clubs. Firstly Armin is the best trance dj. His ASOT radio shows are spot on and he is, quite frankly, unbelievable in a club.
However, this CD is a let down. I have all previous releases and usually they are spot on 06 and 04 are the best from the a state of trance series. On 07, the selection of tunes is pretty poor compared to what he has played on his radio shows. I was very surprised some of them made it onto the CD, considering how good ASOT 300 Live was, played at the time of this albums released.
This is not as good Anjunabeats Vol 5 or any of the new Live As albums.
You need to buy this if you follow Armin, but prepare to be let down.
