Product Description

Manufacturer's Description
Working in conjunction with the Teamvision system, every aspect of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008's on-field play has been reworked and fine-tuned to create the balanced and strategic play of a high stakes match. Set-pieces have been improved, with full control given over the number of players and the position of the defensive wall. A wider range of set piece options are also available to make use of specific talents within the team.

Player detail has been taken to incredible levels with full facial animation and the high-definition detail afforded by the hardware used to show full movement and subtle details to the various kits during the course of a match. All 'Next Gen' versions will also benefit from an extensive Edit mode, allowing gamers to customise their PES experience.

Product Description

Key to PES 2008 is a proprietary adaptive AI system entitled Teamvision. Unique to the Konami game, Teamvision is a sophisticated AI programming that learns and adapts according to an individual`s style of play. As such, it will learn new ways to build attacks and to counter specific movements and previous attacking or defensive errors, ensuring games are more in line with the tactical but flowing nature of the real thing.

With the Pro Evolution Soccer series renowned for its fluid, realistic gameplay, the new game builds on the implementation of Teamvision with additional key advances. As with previous releases since its inception in 1996, the ball is again treated as a separate entity, with the timing of shots entirely down to the player, while the new AI ensures that defenders work to close down space and block efforts on goal. Similarly, distribution of passes works along the same lines, with players using the space available to them to switch the ball. Close control has also been enhanced with more control when dribbling the ball, and a number of subtle moves added to bypass defenders and move the ball into space.

Working in conjunction with the Teamvision system, every aspect of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008`s on-field play has been reworked and fine-tuned to create the balanced and strategic play of a high stakes match. Set-pieces have been improved, with full control given over the number of players and the position of the defensive wall. A wider range of set piece options are also available to make use of specific talents within the team.

All New `Teamvision` A.I. System
Improved AI for Defenders and Attackers
Enahanced Close Control system enabling more control of the ball when dribbling
Improved Set Pieces - players now have full control over the defensive wall

4.0 out of 5 stars a good improvement but still work needed, 1 Mar 2008

Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
without a doubt pro evo is pro evo, the best football game on any console, there have been some improvements but i still feel its the ones that are missing that let this game down. pro evo 2008 picks up where pro evo 6 left off. the graphics are defintely a little bit better and overall it does look visually better, the gameplay has improved with improved tackling, and dribbling systems, although it does still have a little lag in the gameplay when in the goalies area, but from what i have experienced so far it isnt too bad, as pro evo 6 had the same problems. but for the processing power of the psp its still great to play.

master league is back and this is where the game does start to shine. you can develop your players and your team and there are also the respective league and european cups in master league now whichmake for a better game experience on the psp. the datalink is also an improvement from 6, and the interchange is relatively simple.

like the other reviewer said, there is also the pointless world tour challenge mode, which was unnecessary, as id rather have the random select option, which is still missing from the psp versions.

this game still doesnt have a stadium select feature and you are left with the same boring stadium we had in pro evo 6. also the commentary is limited to goalscoring, but then again its not about the commentary is it?
nonetheless its still a great game for the psp. and definitely an improvement from 6,

4.0 out of 5 stars what's changed?!, 29 Feb 2008

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I figured that the reason this was delayed so long was so Konami could avoid the potential embarassement of another PS3 PES2008 situation (i.e. releasing a buggy game long before it's actually ready!) I also figured that there would be big improvements from PES6.

This was overambitious on my part; there was very little wrong with PES6. Other than the obvious licensing issues I got fed up with niggly little things, like the slowdown when lots of players are onscreen at the same time, only one stadium, the lack of commentary and the lack of highlights at half-time and the end of the match.

None of these things have been fixed in PES2008. Considering that FIFA 2008 manages to have lots of stadiums, proper commentary and highlights and no slowdown, I would be really annoyed with PES2008 were it not for one thing; it's still the best football game in the world.

There are a few subtle changes from the previous incarnation, mostly giving you more control over crossing, shooting, manual passing and so on. I haven't had time to try them all yet, but the versatility of the control set-up in the game tells you everything about why this is better than FIFA; rather than max-ing out the budget on presentation, they've once again made a superbly playable game. Add in the (somewhat pointless) World Tour mode (similar to the FIFA 08 challenge mode but with whole matches rather than scenarios) and the ability to synchronise save games with a PS2 version, it's another case of Konami making a few subtle changes rather than overhauling; if it ain't broke...

Don't get me wrong, I really like FIFA 08 for the PSP, but even if this new version of PES is virtually identical to the previous one, it still makes for a better playing experience.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Fifa '09, 14 Feb 2009

Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
We bought this one after Fifa 09, so its a bit unfair reviewing it, as it is older. If you are only buying one footy game on the PSP I would go for Fifa 09. However, if this is cheaper (Amazon prices seem to change daily so its worth checking) then get this instead.

4.0 out of 5 stars It looks like PES, it feels like PES, and it fits in your pocket!
