Product Description

CD Description
Reissue of ferocious debut album from critically-lauded Watford punks whose punishing live shows built an unstoppable momentum which culminated in them being hailed as the best new act of 2006 and signing deals with Epitaph and Warner Bros. An amalgam of UK, Euro and US hardcore styles with a melodic bent and a furious, uncompromising lyrical stance, this is a record well deserving of its reputation. Includes the single 'Abandon Ship' and, in this special edition, a bonus CDcontaining BBC session tracks and three brand new, previously unreleased songs.

About the Artist
The assent of Gallows has been both rapid and explosive. Formed in the conurbation town of Watford in early 2005, the quintet's members cut their teeth playing in various lauded local punk/hardcore bands before coming together to create what Kerrang! have called `the future of punk rock'. With a live performance that, in terms of sheer energy and passion, out-strips any band you care to mention, the band (Frank Carter (vocals), Steph Carter (guitars/vocals), Laurent Barnard (guitars/keys/vocals), Stuart Gili-Ross (bass) and Lee Barratt (drums) quickly built up a reputation as an incredible live act. By the close of 2006 Gallows were the most talked about band of the UK underground.

4.0 out of 5 stars Punk or not, it,s a ferocious album., 4 Jul 2007
By russell clarke "stipesdoppleganger" (halifax, west yorks) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)
Gallows have been labelled a "screamo " band and while I have absolutely no idea what that really means I presume it refers to the way the vocalist errr attacks the songs for in no way could what vocalist Frank Carter does be described as singing. Some will state he shouts rather than screams in which case I'd hate to hear the bloke scream .His vocal chords sound like they have being shredded by razor wire as it is. Get him screaming and his oesophagus will probably explode in a garish cloud of tattered gristle and steaming blood.
Gallows are a five piece hailing from Watford that look like they spend all day snarling at passers by in between nipping into the tattoo parlour and have become the centre of an astonishing bidding war between major record labels who obviously think that this brand of uncompromising hell for leather guitar assault is the next big thing. Warner's won the battle and have celebrated by re-releasing the bands debut album along with nine track bonus CD , three songs which don't appear on the album proper. I'd need convincing anyone would want to listen to that after the quite extraordinary ferocity displayed on Orchestra Of Wolves , this is an album that not only takes no prisoners but sticks their heads on spikes and dances in their steaming entrails.
Some will class it as punk rock , but is punk an attitude or a musical genre or a diffuse mix of both ? If it's a genre then this is unlike any punk I have heard and I include the more extreme bands that gestated from that movement. Gallows sustained ferociousness moves beyond any of that into the sort of sheer relentless attack of hardcore/speed core and bands like Minor Threat or Black Flag whose song "Nervous Breakdown" they cover on the extra CD . There is precious little space or light in this music ,just the endless aggressive screeching of the guitars and the pulverising percussion and that extraordinary vocal. Attitude wise it's spot on , and their often nihilistic approach will get some of the nut jobs who live for music like this salivating so hard they may well drown in their own juice .Lines like "I want you to wake up and remember my name/ when you're wiping my cum from your f**ing face" from "My Name Is Casanova" (incidentally a great song) though just sound lairy and misogynistic even if the song itself is a vituperative put down of slavering masculinity .Still you can't blame the band for misunderstandings about the true nature of their lyrics. These songs deal with life in modern Britain much like The Streets with songs about casual street violence -"Come Friendly Bombs" or the bands struggle -"Rolling With Punches"-The album would be a good five minutes shorter if you removed all the expletives but the impact probably would,nt be the same
H H Williams once wrote "Furious activity is no substitute for understanding " and there is a sense about Gallows that all their splenetic fury is in lieu of actually having anything intelligent or original to say . There is no doubt however, that their anger is impressive, and it's heartening to hear a band who just sound really p***ed off with the way things are. The anger is infectious and that it's found it way into the mainstream is something extraordinary and something to celebrate. Lets just hope that dealing with a major label doesn't leave them with even more reasons to froth at the mouth.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most important rock/punk album for many years!, 23 Sep 2007
By S. Smithson (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Gallows are a hardcore band from Watford, UK who only formed in 2005, and their debut 'Orchestra Of Wolves' is a breath of fresh air. A stunning album with such classics as the title track & 'In The Belly Of A Shark'. The most important rock/punk album for many years (probably since Queens Of The Stone Age - 'Rated R'), which has breathed new life into the punk genre. Get the 2 disc edition as there are 6 stunning live in session tracks & 4 studio tracks including the AWESOME Black Heart Queen & a hidden track - a cover of the Ruts 'Staring At The Rude Boys'. If you like your music loud with lots of balls, then this is the album for you. BUY IT NOW!

4.0 out of 5 stars Gallows, 15 Jul 2007
By Mr. M. J. Bassnett (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
One of the most amazing albums i've ever heard.
If you like heavy grunge metal then this is the album for you...one of the newer bands to come out of the Hertfordshire area, along with Enter Shikari, Gallows bring themost powerful and creative mix of music ive heard in along while.
The double disc edition is well worth the buy compared to the original, doubling up the album with even more amazing additional tracks.
So go out, go buy it, listen to it, love it, buy the concert tickets and live it up with the lads.
