While I agree that there may be more comprehensive Clash sets available (my personal favourite being 'The Story Of The Clash Volume 1') this release does exactly what it says on the tin. All the singles, though not in chronological order - unlike the previous 1991 version, combined with far improved artwork. And it is this that sold me on this CD.
The colourful booklet has been designed with care and features notes from the great and good on each track. Everybody from Pete Townsend to Danny Boyle and many inbetween, get to comment on their favourites and the impact these tracks had on them. Single sleeve artwork and illustrations adorn the liner notes together with some fine shots of the band. All in a slip-sleeved jewel case. And for once, no grammatical mistakes seem to have been made (far too common nowadays on many releases).
A fine release and an excellent introduction to the bands more famous tracks. Recommended!

For many reasons, 1.) dont get me wrong this album features some of the best songs in history but Essential clash features all the tracks on this disk plus 31 more, 2.) and at the courent amazion rate this is priced at £8.99 where as essential clash is £5.97 not a massive saving up still, 3rdly i made the mestake of purchesing this album not essentail clash and ended up buying that as well this ablum is a beer coster, so you are doing your pocket a fauvor and your ears (who can argue to more clash), 4.) and finaly as a abid fan of the clash i have bought all there albums, this is by far the best it sums up there whole career album by album from there first single White Riot through to there fianl single (and not the best i must confess, i much perfer white riot) the lost terrise anthemn This Is England, past many many amazing songs that will change the way you listen to music. SO DO YOURSELF A FAUVOR AND BUY THE ELSSENTIAL CLASH BELIVE ME YOU WILL NOT LOOK BACK FOR A SECOND!!!!

Bought this for a couple of tracks that remind me of my youth, and found that I knew them all. Brilliant memorabilia.
