3.0 out of 5 stars Tiger Army return with fourth record of psychobilly punk, 17 Jul 2007
Tiger Army, since their inception in 1995, have returned with their fourth studio album to date, their first which isn't self-titled. `Music From Regions Beyond' (strangely named after The Haunted Mansion attraction in Disney World), admittedly being my first experience of Tiger Army or indeed psychobilly as a whole, made for an interesting listen as they explore and fuse many different sounds into one.

The album begins with it's lively intro track `Prelude: Signal Return' to catch your attention, and `Hotprowl' follows on suitably with its pacey drumbeat and bassline, and finishes amidst heavy metal backing chants, provided by Bleeding Through's Brandan Schieppati. The majority of the record maintains this catchiness, `Afterworld' is radio-friendly material complete with backing vocals from Davey Havok of AFI fame, and `Forever Fades Away' mixes ballad-like melody with crunchy guitar, and despite its slightly sorrowful feel to it, it still gives you the urge to dance! `As The Cold Rain Falls', with it's ominous synths, sounds almost painfully like The Killers, and `Pain' has a country rock aspect to it, as a swelling organ closes the song.

Perhaps one of the downsides to this album is that it all seems to be very radio-friendly, very middle of the road. Although it has diversity in the instruments and musical styles throughout the album, it never really does anything dangerous, anything that may be memorable to a first time listener.

And that's where this reviewer sees the biggest downfall. While `Music From Regions Beyond' is a good, enjoyable listen, it certainly isn't something I can see myself listening to again, it's nothing that will command a second listen and attract new fans to the army of fans they have already gathered over the years.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tiger Army Never Die?, 2 Jun 2007
Album number 4 and we lose the numerals whos knows why or cares really.

Its more of the same really but the same is really really good. Some great fast rock out songs such as forever fades away and afterworld then a couple of slower great songs like as the moss slowly grows and As The Cold Rain Falls.

The usual guest vocalist Davey Havok (surprising I know) is joined by a few others most noticebly Alain White of Morrissey fame.

It is essentially the same as 1-3 but its again a great album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, 12 May 2009
By D. L. Wilkinson "Dean" (London,UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I like this album. It surely is radio friendly if the radio was in a 1958 diner, but I can't see that as a bad thing myself.
It's got a more new wave influence with the usual style. There's also a nice track sung in spanish which gives a real period feel.
It's not surprising that Davey Havok does backing vocals as he has done on most of their records and AFI's current drummer and first bassist were both members of Tiger Army and Nick 13 does backing vocals on most AFI records and and even Blackq Audio.
