The 2006-07 season was the dawn of a new era at Villa Park. The club landed one of the best young managers in the business in Martin O'Neill, while long-standing chairman Doug Ellis stood down to make way for new owner Randy Lerner. Exciting times were ahead as the club entered their 15th consecutive season in the Premiership - and there was a dream start as they remained unbeaten until the end of October. But the manager and fans were under no illusions about what could be achieved. The late appointment of the manager, linked with the change in ownership in September, meant that new additions to the squad had to wait until the January transfer window. But stability was achieved and a statement of intent was made by the manager and owner in the transfer market, with the high profile capture of John Carew and Ashley Young. It was also the 25th anniversary of Villa's greatest achievement - the 1982 European Cup triumph. The parade of the squad with the cup, as well as Ron Saunders' return to Villa Park earlier in the season, received great support from the fans. It was a progressive season by the club, culminating in a nine-game unbeaten run which mirrored the great start. There were also new signings, young players coming through the ranks and, inevitably, a salute to past glories. Relive all the best moments from the season with this comprehensive look at Villa's first season of a new and exciting era. Aston Villa - Proud History, Bright Future.
