DVD Description

GRINDHOUSE cinemas were located in the sleaziest, most run-down US inner-cities and New York’s 42nd Street was one of the most famous trash pit hangouts for denizens of the lower depths. From dusk ‘til dawn these moviehouses would unspool a mind-boggling assortment of English language and foreign exploitation movies featuring lashings of sex, gore and violence.

For the first time ever on British DVD you can now sit back and take a twisted trip back to the glory days of the sleazy 60s and 70s for a roaring rampage through a two-hour hand-picked collection of some of the most insane examples of trailer trash ever to slash and burn their way through a Grindhouse cinema projector.

Directors such as Eli (HOSTEL) Roth, Rob (THE DEVIL’S REJECTS) Zombie and Quentin (GRINDHOUSE) Tarantino have all since revisted these movies and have made their own supercharged movies relying heavily on the essence of many of these Seventies Grinhouse cinema classics. Tarantino in particular has taken a lot of his inspiration from these movies and trailers, and we’ve included some of his favourites here - see if you can spot them!

Of course, most of the films themselves could never live up to these incredible trailers, some of which can today be considered true masterpieces of creative hyperbolic advertising and marketing. With their often hilariously over-the-top voice-overs and mind-bending taglines - and all the most graphic glimpses from the movies themselves, you won't find a more vivid distillation of the best and worst that Grindhouse had to offer!

Many of the actors and filmmakers seen here went on to much bigger and better things, so it’s no surprise that these movies have since achieved cult status, making GRINDHOUSE TRAILER CLASSICS a must own DVD. And it’s ideal for parties too…

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful trip down sleaze memory lane !, 7 Dec 2007
By Mr. Ae Rayner "aerayner" (hampton UK) - See all my reviews

If you are a fan of those unbelievable `70's movies that used to be shown in the theatres along New York's 42nd. Street, just down from Times Square, featuring sleaze, T&A, mad monster ape men, blaxploitation & she wolves then this is the perfect trailer tape for a great Saturday night's viewing with your mates ! In those far off days you could sit through a double or triple feature program for about $2.50 - now you can recreate the atmosphere armed only with a brown paper bag containing some kind of liquor, remembering to heckle the screen for full enjoyment !
There is a bonus featurette hosted by the totally delectable Emily Booth who points out that although these mad films declined in the `80's there has been a resurgence with such charming modern horrors such as Hostel 1 & 2 and the Saw series !
Warning : not for the squeamish, easily offended or those with a heart condition !

5.0 out of 5 stars The best trash ever, 2 Oct 2007
By M. Godenho "mg" (uk) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As a huge fan of b-grade movies this collection is stunning. Often the trailers are better than the films (and having seen a few of these films being advertised I can confirm this fact) and this collection brings together some of the best trash around.

The voice overs are hilarious. On one horror film that the "scariest of all time" they remind you in a deep dark voice to "Keep telling yourself it's only a movie, it's only a movie, it's only a movie"

Sometimes I look at these types of films with a little twinge of saddness. They are movie makers who are doing their best to make something with little or no budget. At least they're having a go eh?

It's very easy to see where Quentin Tarantino and Eli Roth get their influences from. With these films there's never much of a story. Instead it's all about action and shock factor - be it sex, violence, horror or all three.

2 hours of trailers with a mini doco. Well worth it.
