2.0 out of 5 stars The (Not So) Fantastic Four 2 : Rise of the Silver Surfer, 28 Jun 2007
Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this game hoping that it would, like the second Spider-man game, be an improvement on the first FF game (which was excellent, by the way!), and expand on their Universe while following the storyline of the film.

I was very disappointed. The graphics and gameplay have been taken down by quite a few notches. In comparison, the first game was so much better and so much fun to play. Another disappointment, and a major one for me, is the fact that the cast of the film are not doing the voices on this game. Although their pictures are on the front of the box, they do not lend their voices to the game characters. Even the likenesses of the game characters is nothing like the actors.

A poor sequel to an excellent first game. My advice: buy the first game and see both films, but unless you are a real fan of the Fantastic Four and don't mind a few points lacking, avoid this game.

I didn't actually buy this game. Or, what I mean to say, is I didn't MEAN to buy this game. I was in HMV and spotted the first game as part of a special offer, and, having played it on my brother's PS2 some time ago, I thought I would add it to my growing games collection. Only the guy in the store put the wrong game in the case, so I ended up with F4:ROTSS. I only discovered this on getting home, but decided that was fine with me as the second game would have cost me about three times the total I'd spent in the store and I wanted to try it out anyway (hadn't read any reviews). I have just decided that it is no longer fine with me. This game is even shorter than the first, with considerably more boring controls (you want to attack? Repeatedly press 'X' until the room is clear!), less choice in how your characters level up (as in, no choice at all), no camera movement (what's that in the corner? Something that I can't and never will be able to see...), almost NO tie-in with the movie (which, although didn't have a great ending, was pretty good up until that point) and almost nothing else at all. Almost half the game is spent either following Doom through some streets or looking for the silver surfer in a lab complex. The game barely involves them apart from talking about how you must find them urgently! And it's not urgent at all. The game is easily completable in less than one day. And I wasn't exactly compelled to find out what happened next. Hey presto, a locked door and bad guys whose death strangely unlocks the door.

Anyway, general idea - this is crap, the first game was great, and I've just bought another copy of it on amazon. Cos I'm too ashamed to go back to the store and tell them of their mistake and ask for the first one instead, because then they'd know that I've had this game for more than ten minutes. Avoid at all costs.
