Best Classical Album of the year - with a really good recording and brilliant performance. Naxos have pulled out all the stops on this one.
The title piece - Made in America - is an easily accessible modern piece based on a well known tune. It is good popular music and shows the orchestra off well. Joan Tower is not a name I know but I will certainly be searching out more of her music after this.

The other two pieces are a little more taxing but not greatly so. I particularly like the Concerto which is very concentrated and (for me) has echoes of Bartók.

If you only buy one contemporary album this year, make it this one!
