4.0 out of 5 stars Multi Region?Yes it is :), 5 Sep 2007
By J. Locke "Dr Lokoss" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Was looking for a DVD player to replace a nasty cheapo Tesco one that refused to play burnt DVD's, ended up buying this Tosh SD270 and i have to say its a great little player.

As i haven't yet succumbed to the "posh telly" influences on the high street the lack of HDMI port didn't affect my decision, it has component connections if and when i do require something to upscale to 720p/1080i (don't worry, i don't really understand that last bit either)

To get this machine to perform as a multi region player simply follow the following instructions

The Hack Procedure:
- Power On
- Open Tray
- Press 9879 0 (0 stands for Multiregion, you may press buttons 1 to 6 to choose a specific region)
- A Message appears stating that "The Reg.No was changed to: [insert whatever region (0-6) you selected here]"

That's all, now you can watch every DVD you please... :)

All in all, for £33 ish delivered within 3 days, i refuse to grumble, it looks nice, has played everything i've tried including some DivX stuff burnt straight from my PC, and all in all i'm a very happy bunny

Now if someone could help me find a 32" LCD for around £100 i'll be even happier

Doc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Solid Affordable Multiregion Capable DVD Player, 14 Nov 2007
By Mr. A. Noble "adriannoble4" (Northern Ireland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Purchased from Amazon on Sunday, arrived on Wednesday, no delivery charge, all for £27. I purchased the SD-270E because my long-serving SD-340E player developed intermittent freezing problems so I was looking for a cheap no-nonsence replacement. Set-up is litterally plug and play and the multiregion hack worked without any difficulty, which is as follows:
The Hack Procedure:
- Power On
- Open Tray
- Press 9879 0 (0 stands for Multiregion, you may press buttons 1 to 6 to choose a specific region)
- A Message appears stating that "The Reg.No was changed to: [insert whatever region (0-6) you selected here]"
I have an old 36 inch Toshiba CRT Dolby TV so I just connected the Scart and Digital Coaxial leads and have decent quality at an affordable price. The machine is quiet when running and plays any format that I would use that is until blueray and HD Format DVD players become more widely used.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great little DivX player, 29 May 2007
By A. S. Conway "asconway" (Birmingham, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
If you're looking for something to play your DivX files, then this does the job. I ordered this after suffering catastrophically bad service from Pixmania, who sent me a 'DivX player' that wouldn't play ANY disc, even normal DVDs, and I'm still waiting for a refund off them two months later.

But that's another story.

This little beauty arrived within three days even though I'd chosen the cheaper mailing option and been told by email to expect it a week later. Brilliant.

Hooked it up and put in a data disc of saved avi files and it played just perfectly. It's played every disc I've put in there, including an unfinalised DVD-RW.

Only had problems with a couple of files that wouldn't play, but I expected a lot more. It's even handled an avi file I converted from a .bin file.

The only drawbacks seem to be it doesn't have a memory, so if you turn off and re-start, you're back at the menu, not the position where you stopped watching.

Overall, though, I'm very happy with this for the price.
