The Swordfish 1000XCD - 10-Sheet Cross-Cut Paper Shredder - Product Code: 45010

The Swordfish 1000XCD is the apt personal shredder, ideal for the home or home/office. The space-saver design enables you to store and operate the machine from beneath your workstation or desk.

The robust 1000XCD shredder has a maximum 10-sheet cutting capacity (based on 80gsm paper) and will shred an A4 sheet into 400 tiny 4 x 39 mm pieces through its wide 222 mm feed slot at a speed of 1.5 m/minute and a low noise level of only 69 dB. The 1000XCD also has a large 17.1 L bin, big enough to hold approx. 150 shredded sheets before it requires emptying and includes overload and overheat indicator lights.

The Swordfish model 1000XCD also features – Infrared auto stop/start, a reverse button to help reduce paper jams and will also shred staples, paperclips, credit/bank cards. The Swordfish 1000XCD also has an integrated CD/DVD data destroyer which embosses hundreds of tiny dimples onto the discs making them impossible to read. The Swordfish 1000XCD shredder weighs 9.3 kgs and measures H.477 x W.264 x D.371 mm.

I wanted a shredder that not only was capable of dealing with more than 3 sheets at a time, but cross cut & had good reviews. It's hard to find anything like that. This one seemed the best of the bunch.

The price made me hesitate considering you can get £20 ish models but hey, what's the cost when someone pinnches your identity? If I wasn't totaly happy I could return it.

Actually not as noisy as my old 3 page shredder. Dimples CD's effectively to prevent them being read ever again, & gobbles up credit cards with ease, as well as the "up-to-10-sheets" of paper.

I'm very happy with it. Just remember that it will shut down after 3-4 mnutes use to cool off. But as long as you keep up-to-date with your shredding you should have no problems at all.

Quite happy to recommend it.

Bought this after my old one started clogging every use and was not shredding properly.
This one shreds very well and is nice and easy to use.
The ability to shred CD's and credit cards could be usefulin the future too.

The collection bin is alos very convenient to useand empty, a good design.

The shredder has a solid, sturdy construction and is delivered with 4 coaster wheels. These simply push into the base of the unit and require no additional fixing. Without the wheels, the unit sits happily on the floor or, in my case, on the bottom support bars of my desk.

The top of the unit has two shredding slots, one for CDs/DVDs and another for paper/credit cards. Along one edge are three indicator lights: "ready", which signifies the device is ready to accept whatever it is you want to shred, "overload" which lets you know that you've put a little too much into it in one go (a little redundant, given that the thing grinds to a halt anyway...) and the worrying-sounding "overheat" - I've not yet found out how to get that one to light up. Alongside these is a large, easy to use operating switch with three positions: Auto, Off and Reverse. Auto means it is ready to use, off means... well, I'll leave that to your imagination and Reverse backs the paper out of the shredding slot if you've overdone it.

The collection bin sits firmly inside the unit and slides out easily. There is a safety mechanism which seems to prevent the shredder from running while the bin is not correctly inserted. The bin also has a small porthole window to show how much space remains. I have found this to be useless, as I shred, as I suspect do most people, looking directly downwards at it. The bin capacity is around 90-100 sheets of paper, which in my case was 2 and a half years of bank and credit card statements.

Operating noise is to be expected from any shredder, and this one definitely lets you know when it is running. It is not overly intrusive, however and no louder than any other consumer-spec shredder I have used.Read more ›

Bought this from Amazon. It came next day on the free delivery option with Amazon prime.

It was very well packaged and took under a minute to assemble, you just have to click the castors into place.

I had a mountain of shredding to do, so got to work. It does manage 10 sheets at a time, but sounds happier chomping its way through 8.

The waste basket is very roomy, much larger than on my old cheap shredder that broke the other day.

So if you want a good looking shredder, that has a large basket and can shred 8 sheets at a time, don't hesitate.

The only negative, check the basket from time to time, if it gets too full you end up with shreddings all over the floor when you pull it out to empty it.

I wondered about knocking a star off for this, but its only common sense at the end of the day.

A common problem with choosing such equipment is that for the cost involved you want something that will last years but reviews are written after days or weeks. So as I have now owned one of these for nearly two years...

It's a good solid build which is still working well and with very little sign of wear or tear. There are a couple of minor blemishes in the design. Pulling out the paper tray often results in a bit of knocking around of the tray which causes some paper to spill out. If you feed too many sheets in, jamming the machine by mistake, it can be much harder to unjam than other shredders I have used.

But despite that I'd happily recommend this to anyone else. Mine has given me two years of good service and looks set for many more.

This item was delivered free within 24 hours of ordering, using the free trial of prime membership. very impressed with delivery.
The Shredder was very well packed, with a sturdy outer box with polystyrene inserts & then the shredder box with further polystyrene packing.
This shredder was purchased to replace a cheap crosscut shredder, that was very noisey & would cutout after 5 mins use. also had to be emptied after only the smallest amount of shredding.
Compared to the old shredder, the Swordfish Shreddder is reasuringly heavy, once the casters are inplace the unit is very easy to move around from place to place.
The instruction manual is informative and tells you all you need to know on operating the shredder.
The shredder is easy to use, very quite, quick & when emptiying the collection draw there is no mess on the carpet.
(unlike the old shredder when you had to lift the shredder of the collection box and all the bits of paper would fall from the shredding mechanism)
The manual states that after 3 mins continouse use the shredder will stop working to cool the motor, I have not experienced this yet even though I have used the shredder to clear a lot of old unwanted course work.
I have not used the credit card shredder as of yet but will shortly.
The CD/DVD device destroys data by putting lots of dots over both sides of the CD/DVD so that it can not be read. I have used this & it is very swift & efficient.
Although I have only had this shredder for about 8 hours I am initially very impressed with the product & pleased with my purchase, even though it is more expensive than I would usually pay.Read more ›
