A welcome return to form from Aussie outfit silverchair. After the conceptual "Diorama" album silverchair return with their new single from eagerly awaited new album "Young Modern".

Although this is not a return to Silverchairs hard rock sound it certainly has a catchy anthemic hook that resembles their earlier work and was distinctly lacking in their later material.

Sweeping piano and subtle guitar riffage are backdrops to Daniel Johns whimsical melodic vocal, building up along it's catchy rhythmic pattern in a way not too dissimilar to Coldplay, or Idlewilds "American English", with hints of fellow Aussies Midnight Oil in places.

Straight lines shows a new progression in Silverchair's sound and bodes well for the new album. I really like this song.

What a record, I am stunned at how good Silverchair have become. With every record they have become more confident and daring with their music. Every song on the album is good but my personal favourites are "Waiting All Day" and "Low". Buy this record and chill out to the amazing music that these guys have created
