Synopsis
Director Guy Ritchie's (LOCK, STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS) fourth feature film is about a hard-bitten gambler named Jake Green (played by Ritchie favorite Jason Statham). Green has just spent a lengthy stretch in jail and is seeking revenge on the man who put him behind bars--crime overlord Dorothy Macha (Ray Liotta). Macha's thirst for gambling is his weak spot, and Green exploits it by soundly beating him on a visit to the crime boss's own casino. A hit is subsequently ordered on Green, and he teams up with two tough guys. Avi (Andre Benjamin aka Andre 3000 from Atlanta-based hip-hop outfit Outkast) and Zack (Vincent Pastore) who offer to protect him. Green must give all his money to Avi and Zack, and work for them, if he values his life, so he agrees to the deal despite simultaneously discovering that he suffers from a rare blood disease that will kill him within three days.

At this point in the movie Ritchie and writer Luc Besson (who adapted the screenplay from Ritchie's original script) loosen the narrative structure of REVOLVER, deliberately confounding their audience as the film takes a number of oddball twists and turns. The bloodshed and extreme violence of Ritchie's first two films remain, but he takes this movie into unusual territory as Statham's character begins to ponder the meaning of life, scenes are replayed with different consequences, and an assassin (played by Mark Strong) has an existential crisis about his occupation. REVOLVER isn't an easy ride, but it is likely to stir some debate among passionate Ritchie fans as he follows SWEPT AWAY with another unusual addition to his canon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Waiting for a Region 1 version, 14 Dec 2007
Despite the trend towards negativity in the other reviews this movie has received here, this film was in fact an excellent movie. No it was not a Lock Stock or Snatch type of movie, no it did not follow the mold of some of these movies Guy Ritchie has done in the past few years, but it was still an excellent work.

The acting is trashed because the characters being portrayed are not your usual characters, and so what is actually an extremely difficult role very well done is seen as poor acting. The film is confusing because it is meant to have depth, to make you think, and unlike Lock Stock and Snatch it has a theme. This movie has a MESSAGE. It is not a clear message because it is not an easy one to understand, and I'm not even sure if the makers of the movie meant it to come out this way, but there is a definite message in this movie that is clearer and more effectively communicated than about any other movie I've seen which touches similar topics.

In this movie you still get the gangster/mobster type professional killer characters, you still get the feel and plot type of a Snatch or Lock Stock movie, and the plot is as good or better than those movies, but in addition you have a depth and richness of meaning that was not present in those earlier works. While unconventional, and not easily understood to those looking for mindless action and excitement, this is a truly great movie and stands apart as one of a kind for all it attempts and, more importantly, PULLS OFF in a manner that, if you're open to it, will truly stun you. I won't even attempt to discuss the meaning of this movie in a mere review, I'll just say there is meaning in a way I wish more movies had the guts to attempt. See the movie, watch it multiple times, and I hope you will understand the message there. It is well worth the time.

1.0 out of 5 stars LET ME OUT, PLEASE., 19 Sep 2007
This qualifies as one of the worst films i have ever seen.

The story was non-existent and whilst the actors were well regarded, they should have hung up when Guy Ritchie phoned. One scene in a lift, with Jason Statham became embarassing as he battled his 'inner self'. What the hell was that all about?

If you rent/buy this film you may require counselling or a refund. DON'T WATCH IT !!

1.0 out of 5 stars Shocking, 22 Nov 2007

I had to give this 1 star because there was nothing lower. When you look at the cast list its very impressive, the film sounds good if you read the back of the box but thats where it ends. The story is shocking and the end is even worse, the actors do try but it is very difficult to salvage something from this.

I bought this film and after watching it i was gutted I,d wasted money and 2 hours of my life, it was so bad i binned it while i was having a clean up.
