Product Description

SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

This is about as good as June Tabor record gets - her voice is
full of emotion - her deep understanding of the tradition of British folk
imbues every song with a real timelessness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Five-Hundred Year Olde Soul, 6 April 2007
By Azoic (Portland, Oregon United States) - See all my reviews
If June Tabor doesn't possess a 500 year soul then I'll eat my pig-faced battle helmet. It's downright frightening the way she injects life into these pieces that span the ages as if she were on hand and personally witnessed the events, and lived the various zeitgeists that inspired them-and then played a part in their documentation.Such is the gravity and authenticity of these performances.Once again Tabor,Emerson,Harries, and Cutting provide a paradigm of propriety in presenting these songs with the thoughfulness and understatement that the subject matter warrants. No overproduction here.Pure beauty, drama, pathos, sincerity, sublety and sympatico. This is possibly their best volume ever. You'd have to be miserably jaded to not recognize the value of this effort.Five stars.Bravo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Apples, 8 Nov 2007

(REAL NAME)
Another outstanding work from one our national treasures. There doesn't seem to be a single song that she can't turn her voice to, but particularly outstanding on this album is her version of My Love Came To Dublin & The Old Fashioned Gate, but then I have a penchant for the slow ones, the sadder the better! That said, this has some very sprightly songs on it, which makes it quite a balanced album overall.

I believe a large part of June's success at song interpretation is also to be found in her choice of musicians, who are as equally as deserving of praise for such well-crafted playing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yet another classic album from June Tabor, 12 April 2007
June Tabor is one of the few artists I will buy unheard, her voice gets better and better as time goes on. This new CD is the latest in a long line of classic albums stretching back over thirty years. Quality material, quality musicians and THAT voice. Buy it now!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm told it gets better than this??
Others have written appropriate words: I think only a poet could accurately communicate the Tabor effect. Read more
