At the age of 17, Julian is already establishing himself on the international concert scene having already made highly successful debuts at Wigmore Hall, Verbier Festival and the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.
Krommer was one of the most successful of the many influential Czech composers in Vienna at the turn of the 18th century. His creative output comprises over 300 works, although he only began to publish them in later years. Tuneful and elegant, the double clarinet concerto is a perfect repertoire choice for teacher and student.
Spohr's clarinet concertos - of which Nos. 2 and 4 are performed here - strike a fine balance between virtuosity and musical substance, and they represent a major contribution to the development of the clarinet not merely in terms of repertory but also of construction.
