Finger Eleven for 2007., 8 Mar 2007
It has certainly been a long time since the release of the self titled 'Finger Eleven' album, four years in fact, but the question is was all that time worth the wait?
Well, first of all Finger Eleven are a band which keep evolving and changing, from the Kick ass metal of Greyest of Blue Skies to the pop rock tendancies of the self titled album; their catagory is hard to define as they continue to change, and now in 2007 we get the release of Them Vs. You Vs. Me. (Amazon got the name wrong lol).
Once again this album is unlike any album the band have produced before, it has its own unique sound and feel, personally i think its great. However, this album is definatly not for everyone, those who are looking for an all out metal-fest like Greyest of Blue Skies will be dissapointed for this album is much more of a pop rock album. That is not to say that there arent any rockin' tracks, im just saying that there is about as many slower soft tracks as there is the fast paced tracks which get you moving. And indeed they do get you moving, this album has a handful of some of the most memorable and catchy rock tracks ive heard in a long time, the highlights for me being 'Falling On', 'Lost My Way' and 'Sense of a Spark'.
After listening to the self titled album about 500 million times i predicted that the new album was going to have more slower tracks, and after the success of the single 'One Thing' there was a high possibility that it was going to be a sure thing. Personally i think that the slower tracks fit in perfectly with the faster tracks, they slow the pace of the album just at the right time when you need a break from the rockin'.
With this new album Finger Eleven are definatly trying to reach a broader selection of rock fans whilst still keeping their faithful fans happy, which i think is a great idea, i just hope this album does as well as if not better than the last one. I guess in the end the only way you'l know if you'l like it is to listen to it for yourself. In my opinion the album has been worth the four year wait, it is very much worth your time, check it out :D
Peace out.

Must buy of 2007, 19 April 2007
I own a couple of finger eleven albums and have always thought they were good and on the verge of great. With this album, the cool mix of catchy rock songs with some very funky riffs mixed in has made a great set of songs. This is in comparison to some more mellow soft songs where the musicianship of the band has realy improved with more experimental guitar work. A really good album, i was suprised at the quality. A must buy for fans and anyone with a taste in rock songs with good guitar backing and good vocals!

Fun but flawed, 31 May 2007
It took me a lot of listens to finally decide what I thought of this album. When I first started it up, having heard the first track 'Paralyzer' and being quite excited about the more funk based, bouncy style, I was initially disappointed. It seems that with this album the lyrics have taken a step backwards, they aren't as clever or as thoughtful as previously. There is far more repetition than I feel comfortable with, especially in an album that's only 41 minutes long, which makes it seem like there is a final heavier and faster song missing from the tail end of the album. This could be because the quieter songs just don't have the same impact as those from the last album, or that the heavier songs just sound so much better.
However to write this off due to this would be a mistake because it belittles the true qualities of this album, namely the music itself. It takes a few listens (this album is a bit of a grower), but almost every song is absolutely infectious with searing guitars and thumping drums and tunes that flow seamlessly through songs, rising and falling but always moving organically between the two. The style they're done in gives the songs energy and a sense of fun and the timing on each song is also perfect, the guitars coming in at precisely the right point in the chorus of 'Sense of a Spark' and at the end of 'Easy Life'. The short(ish) length of the album also encourages you to listen to it again and again because it prevents you from getting bored of it. Standout tracks include 'Paralyzer', 'Falling On', 'Sense of a Spark' and 'Easy Life' amongst others.
Maybe smarter lyrics didn't fit with the style of the album. Maybe the band decided to become more mainstream. Either way that is the only thing missing from this album, except possibly more songs. It's not as good as their previous efforts but it is still awesome. Recommended.
