A great radio, 16 May 2007
After several weeks, I'm delighted with this radio. I'm no audiophile but the sound quality is much, much better than the old FM radio it has replaced, whether listening to DAB, FM or MP3s. And it is pretty easy to use. I'd echo all the comments made in the 5-star reviews of the standard Revo Pico.
So is is worth paying out extra for the Pico+? For that, you get the Timeshift feature, an SD card slot for recording or adding your own MP3 tracks and the remote control. The remote control has probably been the most useful, as it has more buttons than the main unit. It's especially handy when you have a baby in your arms.
The timeshift feature is nice if you want to listen to a piece again, and very useful if you want to record it from the start, but I haven't actually used it that much.
My very minor criticisms would be:
- you have to press the buttons on the main unit relatively hard, to the extent that you have to steady the unit with your fingers on top while you press the button or rotate the wheel with your thumb. It's no problem when you get used to it, but more sensitive controls would be better
- there's no low battery indicator or warning, the sound just starts failing
- the names of tracks saved on the SD card are limited to a meagre 8 characters
- as an iPod owner, all my digital music is in the excellent AAC format, so it'd be nice to have support for this as well as MP3s

Very good, almost great, 28 Nov 2007
I've had this now for a few months, and can honestly say I'm pretty happy with it. It's well built, has existed in the bathroom environment (very steamy!) with no problems so far and the sound quality is pretty good. It does a lot of what I wanted a DAB radio to do, and a bit more.
Reception is good, although I do need to have it near a window to get the full complement of channels. However this seems to be a "feature" of DAB from what I read, so I don't think this is unique. The menu structure and general functions are easy to use, although the more advanced functions need a bit of fiddling.
It looks nice. Not generally a major point for me with these sort of things, but I can't stand the "retro" look that so many of the DAB radios have. Although I still can't quite understand why so many only have one speaker (although I can't say I miss stereo for the use I put it to, and it does have stereo output if you want to plug it into speakers).
Is it worth paying the extra for the other bits (i.e. the "+")? I tend to agree with the earlier reviewer; the remote control is great, it means you can change the volume and station while you're in the shower (although I'm not convinced it'd survive a soaking!). The time shift works well, although I've only used it once or twice. MP3 playing I've never used, as I have an iPod and can't be bothered with transcoding to MP3 from AAC - something of an oversight by Revo there methinks. So in my humble opinion, if you're happy to pay £30 extra for the remote it's worth it - otherwise you may as well save your hard-earned. And the mPort is just a line in, it works but it's nothing spectacular (i.e. it won't control your iPod)!
A minor niggle is the force required to push the buttons, it means it's a two handed operation - one to push and one to hold the unit or it'll be pushed over. You'd think they would have ironed that one out in product testing. Although despite that, the buttons have a nice solid feeling to them and a very positive feeling of being pushed so it's a case of what you prefer. I've got round it by making sure the back of the unit is against a wall so it can be used one handed.
It'd also be nice if you got some sort of low battery warning rather than a gradual fade out of the volume. I keep thinking I'm going deaf until eventually it fades to silence.
A major niggle is the battery life. Why oh why isn't it a lithium ion or polymer battery in there? It probably hits the 8 h or so that it claims so it's not terrible, but it really isn't great. And it takes ages to recharge. Now if I can charge my phone in an hour and get a good while of use from it, why can't I do the same with my radio? Another oversight I think.
That said, these are just niggles. But they do rob it of the 5th star.
So overall, a very good product. But shame about the battery life (especially for the price tag!).

Poor product, worse service, 24 Oct 2007
Bought this to go in bathroom so relying on the rechargeable battery pack for general use. Took care to condition battery but after 6 weeks the thing lasts a few minutes from a full (4 hour) charge! Returned it to Revo (who didn't want to pay postage) & expecting it back soon. My advice is buy the Pure instead - I have two of their other products with a total age of about 6 years without a problem as opposed to a Revo of 6 weeks that failed & elicited a poor response.
