5.0 out of 5 stars Does what it says on the tin!, 1 Feb 2007
I bought this item to provide a telephone connection for a Sky box which is located nowhere near an existing phone socket.

While my standard Sky box was never connected to the phone line and Sky never seemed to bother about it, I recently had Sky HD installed and kept the old box on a multiroom subscription. The multiroom conditions state that all boxes must be permanently connected to the same phone line and I had heard that Sky enforced this very strictly to prevent users from "subletting" the second box (which only costs £10 per month), to a friend or using it in another house. Anyway, I kept the second box unconnected and this week received a letter from Sky telling me that they had detected that this was the case and that unless I fixed things I would be charged a full additional subscription for the second box - i.e. over £40 per month!

I did some research on the web and came across the SV1550 which sounded just the thing; no running phone cable under floors and through walls. It was extremely simple to set up and works perfectly with my Amstrad Sky box. Problem solved!

A few things to note. (1) The SV1550 will not transmit a broadband signal so you cannot run equipment requiring a broadband/ADSL connection from the extension socket. (2) According to some websites the SV1550 will not work with Sky+ or Sky HD boxes but I have seen other reports that it does. (3) If you have broadband you will need to install a microfilter between the sender unit and the fixed phone socket to which you connect it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Product does work with Sky + boxes, 18 Dec 2007
By Peter Mc D. "C.J." (Wicklow ,Ireland) - See all my reviews
I recently installed Sky Multiroom. I have one Sky+ box and one standard box. Because of the layout of the house cabling would have been very awkward. Sky advised me to buy the One -for-all wireless phone extenders.

I had some reservations as to whether they would work or not, but the Sky engineer told me on day of installation he had tested them and they were working.

You can easily check it yourself on Sky by Pressing on the remote "other services" then No.4 "System Set Up" then No.7 " System Test". This will give a message telling you whether phone is connected or not.

There was a problem with Sky+ boxes but it appears to have been resolved by the manufacturer of the chip introducing a patch. If you look at the one-for-all website you will see that this patch was to be introduced in February 2007 to new boxes. I live in The Republic of Ireland so it appears new boxes here also have the patch.

You will need a separate phone extender for each room where you have Sky. If you have phone extensions in the kitchen or bedroom you can plug your base units in there, rather than have them all in the hall where the main phone probably is. For example I have Sky in two rooms so I have one base unit plugged into the phone extension in the kitchen and another plugged into the phone in the bedroom. Therefore I have none in the hall.

I now have multiroom without any messy cables and I would recommend this product. Just make sure that the Sky enginner carrying out the installation confirms everything is working.

1.0 out of 5 stars Biased feedback?, 7 May 2007
I've already submitted a review to Amazon to warn people that this product may not always "do what it says on the tin", but strangely that review never made it to the product page. To restate: the set I bought did nothing despite my following the instructions and - yes, thanks product helpline - it was turned on. Presumably Amazon will make sure this review never sees the light of day as well.
