Product Description

The second and final of Timothy Dalton's outings as James Bond sees 007 leave Her Majesty's Secret Sevice and branch out on his own. The trouble begins when drug baron Franz Sanchez (Robert Davi) makes an unexpected appearance at the wedding of Felix Leiter (David Hedison), Bond's good friend, leaving the groom maimed and the bride dead. Bond has no choice but to seek his revenge and, with a little help from the obligatory 'Bond girl' (Carey Lowell) and the ever-present Q (Desmond Llewellyn), sets out after the villainous Sanchez. Causing a storm on its release because of its violence and dark plot, the film was originally given an 18 certificate before studio cuts.

My joint favourite Bond film alongside On Her Majesties Secret Service. Licence to Kill could easily be a standalone film, away from the Bond franchise, as it's so un-Bond - no-one is trying to take over the world here but Bond's mission is personal, a mission into revenge and violent payback, as if seeing the tragedy that strikes Felix on his wedding day ignites the touch paper of the vengeance he's been holding in since witnessing his own wife's death in OHMSS.

For people who love Bond for the fun, playful scripts and set pieces, and knowing that its all ultimately a load of tosh but great entertainment, then I don't think it's one for you, but if you want to see a different side to Bond, a totally different story - a man hell bent on revenge even if it means his own destruction then this really is a great film and as such gets five stars from me as even if you don't like Bond films you can watch this one as a separate entity.

For the sixteenth big screen outing for superspy James Bond, the producers decided to serve up one of the grittiest and hardest hitting films in the series.

After a local drugs lord takes a terrible revenge on Bond's friend Felix Leiter, Bond takes it upon himself to track down the perpetrator and wreak his own vengeance. As a result he comes into conflict with his superiors and is left out in the cold to fend for himself. This allows the director to show Bond using his wits, and the revenge plot leads to some tough action and gory ends.

It's a cracking plot, and, for once, it gives the director a real chance to explore Bond's character and motivations. This is done to good effect, and all credit must go to Dalton for pulling it off. It's a well written and well paced script, which just cracks along at a good pace with some really great stunts thrown in. I've always particularly liked the petrol tanker chase.

The guest stars in this adventure do really well. Robert Dravi is chilling and believable as the drugs baron, and Benicio Del Torro is a suitably sadistic and evil henchman. Look out for Anthony Zerbe as another henchman who comes to a sticky end.

All in all this is a great film, and one of the best in the series (in my opinion - I know that there are a lot of people who will disagree with me!)

This digitally restored edition really is the best version of the film I have owned. The picture has been lovingly restored and cleaned up, and looks amazing. Really, I am not just saying that. It looks superb. The sound has been similarly treated and there is an option to listen to it in 5.1 DTS surround, which is truly exceptional.

Licence to Kill is the second of Timothy Dalton's two outings as James Bond and is another very good film which is under-rated. It has an interesting plot but is very dark for a Bond film and therefore perhaps not for everybody. However, it is a good film just not a typical James Bond story.

Timothy Dalton, the most underated and best bond is back in the best and most underated bond film of all. While the plot is a bit more thin than others, Licence to kill is a very well made action thriller, with some of the best action sequences is bond, no film history, and brilliant performances from all the actors involved. The film is incredibly dark and very violent, especially when compared with the series' lighter entries, but the film is much closer to Ian Flemings view of the character. When people diss this movie it makes me mad, because they are missing out on this brilliant film. This film showed signs of the series going in the right direction, but unfortunately they messed it up by hiring Peirce Brosnan and making it ridiculous all over again. Thank god Daniel Craig finally set things straight with Casino Royale.

I would recomend this film to any action/thriller fan, fans of the books, or fans of the series other dark entries such as On her majesty's secret service or Casino Royale. However Connery groupies who refuse to enjoy any Bond film without Sean in it I would advise to stay the hell away.

Timothy Dalton should have played Bond again. This film proves it, and however many people down it for being "un-Bond" it will never change the fact that this is a fantastic film, and my favourite of all the Bond films.

Licence To Kill is an ok Bond movie.Timothy Dalton is a great Bond I wish he did another bond film because he is a brilliant Bond! Its not a great bond film because it is too dark for a Bond movie and that lets it down. All the stunts and action are outstanding! At least this Bond film is not the worst one out the Bond franchise.I like Dalton's previous Bond film more(The Living Dalights)because it has more content and it is not as dark.I suggest you see this on tv of love film because you don't know what your getting.

Felt Timothy Dalton was a bit underrated - ok he's more serious than Roger Moore who was a parody towards the end of his run but nobody's complaining about Daniel Craig's serious approach...

Bought the DVD as part of a Bond collection which my children have really started to enjoy, starting with Dr NO and then working our way through the series of films. Delivery was on time and no damage to the packaging.
