5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 27 Mar 2007
By J. A. Grice "A music fan" (England, York) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
After seeing Mumm-ra live in february i just couldn't live with just memories of their show, so i looked up when their next cd was out and low and behold it was What Would Steve Do which is what they opened with at the gig. So being a good fan i counted down the days untill it hit the shops, i went out and bought it immediatly and found that it's absolutely amazing. Not only is What Would Steve Do a very catchy song but the B-sides are also very good.
I would recommened any indie fan to buy this, just so that when Mumm-ra do make it big, you can say to your mates with a smug look on your face "oh yeah, Mumm-Ra, i knew about them ages ago".

3.0 out of 5 stars ...good droogs, dudes..., 19 Mar 2007

One of the great things about actual records, as opposed to downloads, is the record sleeve. Many's the record I've bought based on the cover art, and so it was with this one. And the cool band name. I was mentally hearing some kind of 1930s Egyptologist palying Krautrock. And what more could one want from a sleeve than a bewhiskered, stovepipe hat wearing, penny farthing rider? You're right. Nothing more.

Naturally, the music doesn't live up to the sleeve, veering between British Sea Power and the Guillemots with obligatory scratchy guitars. S'arite. I blame AC/DC. After all, if I hadn't have bought "If You Want Blood...You've Got It", based on the cover, I would never have carried on in this manner.

Oddly, the Floorboard remix suits the imagery better than the Youth produced A-side. Incidentally, isn;t it about thime he changed his name? he must be cracking on a bit now. Anyway, it all goes Boards of Canada on the flip side, but at 33 and a third. Either that or I played it at the wrong speed. Good droogs, dudes.
