1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy , 1 Aug 2007
By Mr. P. A. Everitt (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I recently purchased this item because one it was cheap, two sony always had products I have found to be reliable and three the reviews were good.

It is to slow to pick up the signal to load the map. Also on that very bad Friday when the weather caused all the floods it was useless as it wanted to take me everywhere except home as instructed.

I also had a recent trip to Lewis in Sussex. On my return I switch it on and I had already travelled 25 miles before it pick up the signal.

4.0 out of 5 stars satnav, 8 Jun 2007
By David Prior "david prior" (uk) - See all my reviews

bought one not long ago, has taken me correctly to five out of six places! but dissapointed that sony havent had any updates to this unit since jan 2006 its now june 2007, i find that sometimes on newer roads you are driving in green fields on the satnav because of the lack of updates. the satnav will take you the old routes through town centers without the latest maps. over all its not a bad unit for the price and i have heard the same said about more expensive systems.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid like the plague..., 10 Aug 2007
This is my first sat-nav system and although I'm nowhere near a technophobe and usually know how to work devices without even reading the manuals, this is horrendous.

The problem isn't with the device itself but rather in trying to register the device with Sony in order to receive the regular camera updates. I eventually managed to register it the first time after many failed attempts and update the initial software, however, for subsequent updates, I cannot now even log into the Sony site to get there! My Sony id is constantly thrown out despite it being copied directly from the orginal e-mail I received from them and/or my password isn't recognised despite that also being repeatedly sent to me. Even if I do get past this screen - which has been very rare - it either fails to display the following page or says my registration process is still incomplete! When I try to complete it, I either get another blank screen or it frustratingly throws me out, returning me back to the log-in screen again!

I've never known anything quite like this - when updating firmware/software for my various MP3 players for instance, this has never happened.

All in all, I wish I hadn't bought this and have now given up on the camera updates, one of the critical reasons for buying this.

One star is being generous to this product. I cannot recommend it on any level whatsoever and it now takes the dubious honour of being the worst piece of kit I've reviewed on Amazon so far.
