5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, 4 Feb 2007
By N. Singleton "Nick Singleton" (Essex, UK) - See all my reviews

Yet another gem in ITVs history, this series is taken from 1991 and introduces Station Officer Nick and Recall. The incidents are amazing and feature the famous bus accident with the school kids, the bloke crushed in his cement mixer truck and that huge factory fire where Hallam and Bayleaf get buried alive under a lorry by a collapsing wall.It is also the series which had the best incidents as after this series they tightened there special effect budget and concentrated on the personal lives of the watch. Plus Malcolm leaves in the next series and that in my opinion was the death knell as that plonker Pearce ruined it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Series this, 26 Jul 2007

I loved London's Burning, always watched it on a sunday except the later on series I just loved the characters of Tate, then Nick, Billy, Colin, George yes even Vaseline and the rest of the gang. Malcolm is great too I was sorry to see Station Officer Tate leave

they are such a loyal and great bunch of guys. Bayleaf was excellent also and I kept hoping him and Josie would get together permanently but not to be. this series is well deserved to come out on DVD and is well worth being part of someone's dvd collectionand I have the first four series and looking forward to series five.

very enjoyable and watchable you feel as if you are part of the watch with eveything they go through

5.0 out of 5 stars Nick arrives and London's Burning gets motoring!, 11 Mar 2009
This is the 1991 series of London's Burning that really kick-starts what in my opinion was the golden age of ITV's best-ever action drama (certainly up there with "The Sweeney").

Nick Georgiadis (Andrew Kazamia) and Recall (Ben Onwukwe) join the series and the incidents are not only huge fires (such as a huge factory blaze, and a hotel disaster) but also a tube train incident. There are also an outing to Kent and a pram race, as well as the classic cement mixer episode.

Speaking personally, I welcome the "pit stop" ad break markers as these help to pace the programme. Wish they still had the original ads though! ;-)

I have given the DVD 5 stars because I love it. As a product, however, I should mention that the picture quality can be a bit grainy (when paused, as though filmed through muslin!) and that the subtitles originally provided are not included. I have just read that the DVD is mono only but the sound is marvellous and definitely repays listening on the hi-fi...

The extra of "the making of", as shown on TV, is most informative.

Hot stuff!
