Synopsis

Includes the Billy Wilder films THE APARTMENT, SEVEN YEAR ITCH, WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION, THE FORTUNE COOKIE, and THE PRIVATE LIFE OF SHERLOCK HOLMES. In THE APRTMENT, an aspiring office clerk lets his boss use his apartment as a safe place in which to carry on his romantic encounters. Complications arise when the clerk falls in love with his boss' girlfriend. In SEVEN YEAR ITCH, Richard Sherman is a middle-aged book publisher who remains in Manhattan while his wife and son go off the country on vacation. Once alone, he's consumed with sexual fantasies about various women from his past as well as the eye-popping model/actress, who's just moved into the apartment above. Hoping for some action, he invites his neighbour to dinner, but the combination of his amusingly nervous bumbling and her belief in the innocence of his intentions guarantees that nothing happens. Despite his guiltlessness, he begins to imagine that his fantasies are being broadcast nationwide, with his wife part of an eager audience. In WITNESSS FOR THE PROSECUTION, a skilful lawyer takes on a murder case and finds himself entangled in a web of deceit. In THE FORTUNE COOKIE, a cameraman gets injured whilst filming a football game and his scheming lawyer brother-in-law hits on a way to fleece the insurance company. In THE PRIVATE LIFE OF SHERLOCK HOLMES, Sherlock Holmes tackles his most baffling case, involving him with a beautiful and treacherous woman, spies, and the Loch Ness Monster.

4.0 out of 5 stars ASPECT RATIOS for these films, 21 July 2009
By P. D. gray "Paul G" (Tyne and Wear, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have the set and here are the aspect ratios according to the boxes and from my viewing

- THE APARTMENT ... widescreen version 16:9 .. presented in 2.35:1
- SEVEN YEAR ITCH . widescreen version 16:9 .. presented in 2.55:1
- WITNESS FOR PR... fullframe version 4:3 .. presented in 1.66:1
- FORTUNE COOKIE .. widescreen version 16:9 .. presented in 2.35:1
- SHERLOCK HOLMES . widescreen version 16:9 .. presented in 2.35:1

Having checked all the aspect ratios with the info on the IMDB site I can confirm they are in the exact same ratio as originally released to the cinema. So havent a clue where the other reviewer gets the idea from they are PAN AND SCANNED.

2.0 out of 5 stars Ruined Films !, 2 Nov 2008
These films in this boxset has been Pan Scanned !!

Witch means that they cut off one third of the frame (and in CinemaScope features, Half the frame)...

so some times you wil see two noses in each side of the frame, speaking to one another !!

I will never be able to understand this Concept...
