Product Description

CD Description
'A Tale Of Two Cities' is the debut album from Oxford-educated UK hip-hop producer Mr. Hudson and his band, The Library. A curious mixture of hip-hop, grime and traditional jazz, Hudson and his band blend these disparate elements into a pleasing whole, bringing to mind artists as diverse as Sway, The Police and Chet Baker. Includes the single 'Too Late Too Late'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Songs with sunshine - guaranteed!, 10 Mar 2007
By Mr. Steve Jansen (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Nice album! Every once in a while an album slips out that surpasses the hype, and Hudson's Two Cities is one just set - a true, genuine blinder that deserves to be big off its own merits rather than because it's this week's cool thing. Two Cities is a much needed breath of fresh air for our times, one to cut through the smart-alec guitar band overkill that we're all supposed to be moving to; and one that's (if there's any justice) poised to become one of the records of the oncoming summer. Now they've broken ground, just watch the media scatter to cover Hudson...

If I sound a little sarky on that last line, it's only because upon hearing this I was reminded a great deal of earlier efforts by LSK and Merz, which worked the same seams as this years ago, but never really got the success they deserved. However, inevitably, everything has its time.

So, I guess the only thing to do is advise that, if this floats your boat, you should also put in an order for Merz (which Hudson sounds so much like it's haunting) either on the eponymous debut or the gorgeous Loveheart. Or rewind to 2003 and grab LSK's second set, Outlaw, with its smart, warm take on ska - all shot straight from the heart. The latter is more street than this, but is guaranteed to work the same trick of shining light through even the greyest day.... Which in my book is a true mark of top tunes.

Roll on the sunshine!

5.0 out of 5 stars something and everything, 5 Mar 2007
By Cleptonik "Cleptonik" (Birmingham, UK) - See all my reviews
From start to finish this album has a vision - a vision of something different. A vision that good music need not be constrained by genre, nor that every song on an album need be of the same style. Its got jazz and R 'n' B. Its got indie and pop. Every melody is strong and there isn't a duff lyric on the album.

In fact its pretty hard to find much fault with this album. Its simply good music with good lyrics and a sense of place and self which is so much lacking in many debuts. Exceptionally accomplised, brilliantly produced. I'm very glad I own this record.

Oh and did I mention its cool as hell.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting
A curious mixture of genres. Doesn't quite live up to the hype. But very original. So gets my vote as something different. Cover Girl is a good catchy tune to sample.
