Four buddies go camping in the wilderness in Utah. Around them birdwatchers and other campers are killed by a sinister murderer - a crazy forest man. Cops eventually think they should try to find out about all the disappearances - so they start asking questions. This is a video- nasty that boils around in the woods with no direction, without much excitement. Looks more like a series of murder scenes with a helpless plot in between. Not good acting, and none of the characters sticks deep or built up to anything at any time. What did that guy do there in the wheel-chair deep inside the woods? Before his head was chopped off and went out to the right? This setting has been done better in a number of other films, not least in Deliverance (1972) and Just Before Dawn (1981). Ok, some fine moments of gore, blood and chills, and it was a 80's video-nasty - so it's a collectors item too - others will get bored.

Footnote: My DVD has the back cover information confused with another film called «In the woods» (1999),
thats very sloppy too.

The story..Four youngsters head into the woods for a camping trip only to be stalked and killed by a maniac who roams the woods. Any other people who happen to be around are also killed...
It's hard to believe this joke of a film was at one time banned as a video nasty. I can only assume the censors thought we might all laugh to death or die of boredom after watching such a poor film. The direction here is woeful, the acting dire and the film is really badly lit. I rate it 2 stars and not 1 as there are many deaths and also a few amusing moments from time to time. However, for the most part it's mainly boring and the music is absolutely abysmal. On the plus side it's uncut and the DVD contains many extras too. I kept my copy just because I'm a video nasty completist.

Hi!

There will be people wanting to check this out on account of it being put onto the video nasty list ...
as indeed I did.

I rather enjoyed it for what it was ...
having now watched it - it is surprising to me that it ever made the list even if putting it in it's own time frame, it could be argued that going on the list was the best thing that ever happend to this film - it would likely be buried and pretty much forgotten by all but the hardcore by now.

Somehow t's all quite scooby doo!!!

Would I reccomend it?
Well that would rather depend on the price being paid for it !!
For £5 or less it's worth a look ...
anything more is rather too much, I think.

It's a worthy detour - but certainly no landmark - that I certainly found watchable and sorta enjoyed on account that it does not take itself too seriously.

If you expect anything more - i can only see disapointment for the viewer.

3/5

Everything about this film is inept. The plot, the pacing, the acting, the camerawork, the special effects, everything sucks. There is nothing to enjoy about this film. NOTHING.
Probably the best thing about it is the retro "soundtrack" if you can call it that made on some kind of analogue synthesizer.
Wont be upgrading to the Blu ray that's for sure.

I'm a fan of schlocky old horror films and am always willing to give a chance to something I've never heard of. This was prosecuted as a "video nasty" back in the early 1980s but is now on the market uncut. Personally I wouldn't have bothered re-releasing it.

Plot - bearded man in the woods kills everyone he comes across.

Sound is poor on the UK copy from what I've read elsewhere, just a basic dubbed over spoken word/screaming soundtrack with maybe a few sound effects on the kills.

The picture does look to have been cleaned up so full marks there. The gore effects are good for a film on such a low budget but nothing to write home about, sometimes more comical than horrific but I think this was the intention.

DVD has some extras like commentary which is unusual for this kind of film so a thumbs up there but overall I am giving this 2 stars out of 5. The lack of a cohesive storyline ruins any good to be found here.

Incredible picture quality of an old Video Nasty classic. Looks like it was shot yesterday. A very wise purchase.

Sorry, I know that the subject of horror films is often heaving with pickiness about complete versions / quality of prints and I avoid this like the plague. Can't help but mention, that while this is indeed uncut and the best you're ever likley to see the film look, the dvd totally omits the film's musical score and presents the film with only the spoken audio track. No music, no sound effects - renders it like watching a silent movie 80% of the time. AVOID!

Four friends go hiking in the mountains of Utah but come unstuck when they are hunted down by an insane, cannibalistic mountain man.

Cheapo, independent slasher horror (comedy?), which is one of the dumbest films I've seen in ages, making absolutely no sense; it has zero character development, plotting and suspense. There's no nudity whatsoever and judging by the lead actresses that's no bad thing trust me, with probably the fittest one of the two looking like a dead ringer for Richie Cunningham in Happy Days!!
Originally this was banned as a video nasty in the UK, which just goes to show the mentality behind the 'Video Nasties movement' at the time, because although this does have copious amounts of silly bloodshed (about the same as say a 15 rated film nowadays), it is about as horrific and traumatic as receiving a years supply of free candy-floss!

Shot on the budget of a multipack of Skips, the film goes from one badly dressed victim to the next, as the crazed wildman, looking like a rabid ewok, attacks people with a pointed stick and his machete. With scores of people endlessly going about their hobbies in what must be the busiest woods in the history of film.. Fishermen, a roller skater (in the woods..!?! See I told you it was dumb!), ramblers, a twitcher, people in sleeping bags etc etc (16 victims in total according to the director - not including the 4 'leads') who all seem to be killed for no reason at all.

Did I enjoy it? Hell yeah!

I mean when you have a fat dweeb in a hideous pink shirt and beret to match being strangled to death with his own manbag and then thrown down a waterfall, it can't be all bad right?
Personally I think the same end should befall all male manbag wearers..
