5.0 out of 5 stars Roberts MP30 Radio, 20 Jan 2007
By Wave Guide (Scotland) - See all my reviews
This radio is a joy to own. It is easy to use and control by means of intuitive menus. Sound quality is excellent. Programme recording by means of the EPG function is easy and works flawlessly. If I have a criticism it is that the recorded files (in MP2 format) when viewed for replay give details of radio station, date and time of recording but not programme detail. However replay of pre recorded MP3's works well with truncated file names displayed on the selection file list. One other small problem is that battery insertion can be fiddly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, 21 May 2007
By Ms. P. Lowe (Oxon. UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have just bought this radio and it is wonderful! I have had several DAB radios and this one has virtually everything you could dream for. The controls are easy to use, having an Electronic Programme Guide is great and you can just select items on the list and they will be recorded for you! The sound quality is excellent with good tone controls. The only additional feature I would have liked to see would have been an Audio in (like the Gemini 25), so that you could play an MP3 player through it, but may be that is unnecessary having recorded so many good programmes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Radio. Poor Software Build Quality, 24 Jan 2008
Pros:
Nice form factor... Sound quality is excellent thanks to the large speaker (it's hard to tell from the pictures but this is a BIG radio!). Nice layout of buttons & easy to learn user interface.

Cons:
I have had four of these. Each one has had software bugs. The first two kept re-booting, the next two had alarms that didn't work and would periodically lock up.

When the system is fucntioning, most of the features do not work nicely with each other. Viewing 'Information' disables the Pause+Play feature and the ability to switch channels. Using the Pause+Play mode, disables the information & channel switching buttons. etc, etc. Every feature has to be effectively turned off before you can use another.

Most of the lovely huge display is wasted space. 'Now playing' information is only available by pressing the *I* button.

Recorded programs are not listed by name but by time, date & channel. Worse, if you're hoping to use this as a portable media player, the software cannot even recognise folders of music. It will show ALL your music & EPG recordings in a single list. It cannot recognise mp3 tags & despite the huge display, can only display 8 chrs of the filename. eg: 'SUPPOS~1.mp3'. Good luck finding anything in this list.

Conclusion.
After having four of these that were ALL faulty, I would find it hard to recommend Roberts and am sad to say I will avoid them in future.

I bought this radio to use whilst on holiday in a touring caravan away from mains electricity. It runs batteries flat in 4 to 6 hours making it very expensive to use as a battery... Read more
