Created by Ariellah, star performer and instructor of Tribal Fusion Bellydance, Contemporary Bellydance and Yoga Conditioning combines three vital components of bellydance training: * a physical conditioning regimen to develop flexibility and strength; * two sets of bellydance technique drills - basic and advanced - for improved muscle control and precision in executing bellydance isolations; * a sequence of contemporary bellydance combinations complete with transitions to form an elegant and evocative modern choreography. Whichever form of bellydance you choose, this training system lays a solid foundation. The flexibility and muscle conditioning section of the program consists of 3 yoga sessions that can be used as a warmup/cooldown or as a stand-alone daily yoga practice: * Short yoga warmup (8 min.); * Full yoga warmup (20 min.); * Yoga cool down (8 min.) The Yoga sessions focus on building lower body strength and opening the hips to achieve ease and precision in bellydance hipwork. A number of exercises open the chest and increase back flexibility to enhance torso isolations and make dance movement sinuous and fluid. Bellydance technique drills (75 min.) include hipwork, upper body work, combined hips/upper body isolations and arms/hips coordination. They also include adding level changes to torso isolations and layering hipwork on traveling steps. The style of Ariellah's choreographic work is contemporary Tribal Fusion bellydance. She breaks down 6 combinations, step-by-step, consisting of multiple movements and transitions. The combination sequence forms a choreography, practiced to two different songs, to encourage creative adaptation of steps and transitions set to music. Ariellah is a petite dynamo who in her "Welcome" on this excellent DVD tells how yoga and belly dance can be related, and how yoga helps one to do the isolations, which Ariellah teaches in slow motion and with exact precision in her Technique Drills. She says that yoga also brings strength and energy, and heightened awareness that can be applied to belly dancing. All the yoga and bellydancing is done slowly on this DVD, and gives the impression that it is easier than it actually is, though even if you are a beginner, and you listen to your body and only do as much as you can, you will find the exercises and drills challenging and rewarding. The DVD is well produced and takes place on a bare stage setting that is a good contrast to Ariellah's black leotards, making it easy to see each movement; you have the choice of a Short or Full yoga warm-up (the "Full" isn't necessarily harder, it is just longer and has a different selection of movements) and there is also a wonderful "Yoga Cool Down" at the very end. After the Drills there is Choreography to learn, and then Combination Practice, repeated so you can practice until perfect. Best of all perhaps are the performances, With Ariellah in her unique and fantastic costumes, spellbinding with her incredible agility and technique in 3 aesthetically beautiful numbers. This is a great DVD for the non tribal bellydancer, 10 Jan 2009 By  J. George - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)    I stumbled on to this DVD on YouTube and watched the 5 minute presentation before making my purchase. Though not a follower of ATS, I've been belly dancing for just under a year and I think its ABSOLUTE BRILLIANT considering this is my very 1st Belly dance DVD purchase - I know I've struck gold. Ariellah instruction is clear, precise and very well thought out. She teaches you to stand in the correct posture and breaks down each drill so it is very easy to perform and instinctively knows when your concentration is going, as she tells you 'check in on your posture'. Also she has a uncanny knack of knowing your arms are hurting when you're performing a drill! It's performed on a stark set with no distracting background or music (it is different from the Arabic belly dance music I normally listen, still it did not detract of performing the drill correctly.) As a non tribal belly dancer, I have recommended this DVD to friends who want brush up or maintain their technique between classes.
