Thank you very much to the people who are producing the Series 3 and 1984 Christmas Special dvd. Many of us thought it would never be released and you've brought Christmas 2006 to us early.

The partnership of Paul Nicholas (Vince) and Jan Francis (Penny) is one the finest comedy partnerships we've ever seen, and they're just as brilliant in Series 3 as in the first two. The show stands or falls on the chemistry between the two and they don't disappoint in the final seven episodes of the series. Jan Francis looks very different in Series 3, by this time Penny is a successful businesswoman and looks and dresses the part. Jan Francis was a bit of a style icon back then and lots of British women copied her fashion twenty years ago. Paul Nicholas, of course, always looks the same, and is just as cheeky but lovable in this final series.

Series 3 continues the story of Vince and Penny when they meet again two years after their separation at the end of Series 2. Naturally they fall in love again and their relationship is just as sparky and on-off as in the other two series, and just as funny.

The feature-length 1984 Christmas Special (that tells the story of how Vince and Penny first met and how and why Vince left Penny on their wedding day) is superbly written and acted and is very funny. It will have you laughing but also have you shedding a tear or two in sympathy with Penny when her big day is ruined. It is possibly the finest writing John Sullivan ever did, and he's a great writer. It was originally screened on Christmas Day 1984 and attracted a huge audience, as did the whole of the Just Good Friends series (larger viewing figures than Only Fools and Horses at the time I think)

June 2007 might be a way off, but class is worth waiting for, and Just Good Friends is one of the classiest comedies ever seen on British TV screens.

The company responsible for this title, Cinema Club, tell me that Just Good Friends has been "postponed" due to outstanding copyright issues. They do plan to release it at some point in the future, but don't know when. Incidentally, Cinema Club also planned to release John Sullivans Roger Roger back in autumn 2006, but that got shelved for the same reason and has yet to appear. They have also postponed Dear John....you guessed it, for the same reason. Strikes me Cinema Club ought to clear copyright issues before issuing release dates and then disappointing people!! Series 3 is currently being shown on UK Drama, but even if Cinema Club do get round to issuing this series, the 90 minute 1984 Xmas Special is still missing, just as it was from the BBC release of Series 1 & 2.
