Product Description
Product Description
Limited Edition UK-only pressing of the 2006 album from Emma Bunton (AKA Baby Spice) features three bonus tracks: 'Something Tells Me (Something's Gonna Happen', 'Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps' and Por Favour'. Life In Mono is Emma's most honest album to date, an intimate reflection of Emma's life and loves that reveal more than she was ever expecting. Musically it sounds like a rich pop album even at first listen, with rich orchestral backing, gorgeous harmonies and the sort of chorus' Burt Bacharach could be proud of. It moves from the stunningly tender 'All I Need To Know' to cheeky jazz of 'Undressing You' and the luscious Carpenters style of 'I'm Not Crying Over Yesterday's' . Above all it captures Emma's thoroughly modern take on elegant 60's Pop. Universal. (Review copyright Amazon.co.uk) ... (more) (less)

4.0 out of 5 stars Let's go downtown, 5 Dec 2006
Life in Mono is not the type of throwaway pop album that demands immediate attention but quickly becomes boring, nor is it a few good singles and a load of filler masquerading as an album; it is a proper solid and consistently pleasant offering from Emma Bunton that seems to finish what she started with Free Me. The 60s-influenced and basa nova beats are developed and the production is deeper and more subtle, with a huge leap in vocal range and power. It is very hard to imagine that this is Baby Spice, and that 10 years after Wannabe a very good record could come out of an ex-Spice Girl... but it has.

There is the moody atmospheric Life in Mono (sounding like a French influenced So Long), He Loves Me Not (like the grown up sister of Crickets Sing For Anamaria), the delicate All I Need To Know (rumoured to be the next single, and comparable to Will Young's Who Am I), and then there is Downtown of course. The highlights however are Take me to Another Town where Bunton manages one of the catchiest and listenable Spice Girl tracks since Stop, and Undressing You which is a more sultry, Jame's Bond-inspired, love song about "trying to chase away all the dirty thoughts" in her mind... arguably this album's Free Me.

While Free Me was regarded as exceeding all expectations of Emma, this album puts Free Me to shame- showing Free Me up as rather patchy and underproduced album with limited vocals- by eclipsing it on every count. Life In Mono sees Emma coming into her own, in a gentle quiet way that requires a few listens before you are hooked. The only problem is a distinct lack of a Maybe-esque dance stomper, but it is more than made up for in a 50 minute sunny treatment of escapism.

It is quite easy, when listening, to "forget all your troubles, forget all your cares" which is surely what good pop music is supposed to do.

Wow is all i can say!!
I love the cd, Emma has such a sweet voice and it it well suited with the 60 style beats. My fav song is Life In Mono, this should be a bond theme, also really like the opening song of the cd.
All in all a great album, something different from the everyday pop!
Well done Emma for carrrying on with this style, its a risky move, but its paid off, with this masterpiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life In Mono: Amazing New Album From A True Artist - Emma Bunton, 11 Nov 2006

(REAL NAME)
People say that when you leave a successful group (Spice Girls, SClub7, Steps etc...) your solo career will flop. But Emma Bunton has shown that not to be true. With two huge successful albums "A Girl Like Me" and "Free Me" she releases her third album "Life In Mono". Her first single from this album will be for Children In Need titled "Downtown". So if you want to know what type of sound this album will be listen to that single and it will give you the taster. It's a truly great album with a sound that really suits Emma's voice. I know that it will be just as successful as the last two!!! WELL DONE EMMA!!!
