4.0 out of 5 stars Posh promise indeed, 25 Jan 2007
By JJ (London United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Watch these guys. Very closely. In just three tracks, these guys distill a perfect trio of indie-make-happy-feel-nice-hyphen-colon-pop. Granted, there are literally hundreds of upper class delinquents peddling a similar mix of keyboards and ligthly distorted guitars, and to be honest, there are a lot of bands that are just as good (better in certain opinions)as these boys. BUT. There IS something special here. Its just little giveaways, such as the so-catchy-you'll-be-singing-when-your-dead chorus of The Butcher, and the great start-stop-start bit halfway through Leni. Its just these lil flashes of private school brilliance that push them a designer-tousled hairstyle above the rest. So, buy this, then in 6 months you can be the irritating so-and-so who can boast to have been into chart-topping myspace sensation "before they were cool" Hmmmmm, I feel I've been here before, with a certain bunch of chilly chimpanzees...

5.0 out of 5 stars Immense, 22 Dec 2006
By Mr. J. Milton "jambo234" (Brighton) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
GoodBooks' impression on the music of 2006 has been somewhat subdued, they were tipped by NME to make a breakthrough but the highlight of their year so far, has been supporting the Magic Numbers. But with a song like "Leni", surely GoodBooks' reputation can only get better.
With a chirpy pre-chorus similar to the Feeling's "ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-baby!" lead singer Max Cooke blissfully puts forward the lyrics " And then there's Leni with the love in her hands/ When she's around I find it hard to understand / She winds me up and down again, again and again/ She might as well leave me for dead". It's a love song, quite obviously, but one that will get you dancing, not weeping.
Hopefully, this song will be remembered well by those that know of it, it's the best GoodBooks song that's available at the moment, and surely better things are to come.
And who cares about reputation when you've got a song like this?

5.0 out of 5 stars The best, 5 Dec 2006
By Tenacity (London) - See all my reviews
GoodBooks were described as alternative electro indie. I trotted this out to someone and they responded "Oh yes - intelligent words, tells a story, small group and good music".

Just about sums it up - for a first Colombia release this is absolutely excellent.

Look forward to more and more.
