5.0 out of 5 stars why isn't this album getting enough love?, 12 May 2007
i've had this album for several months now and it just seems to get better the longer i have it.you can hear traces of so many influences in here without it ever being anything less than wonderfully fresh and innovative in its own right. this is the first time i've felt driven to review an album on here because i simply cannot understand why this album's title is not on everbody's lips right now. if you've had a passing interest in dubstep and wanted to know what all the fuss is about but found that the bits you heard all sounded a bit stark and clinical for your taste, this album could be just what the doctor ordered. it's warm, it's lush and it makes you want to dance around your room like a fool. the influences i mentioned range from aphex and autechre's friendlier output to raymond scott and steve reich, from burial and drexciya to tom waits and kate bush. there is a lifetime's worth of love of music in here. i want two things - more of the same please and a look through bass clef's record collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars certainly made me smile, 10 April 2007

What a cracking debut! From the incredible opening 'Cannot Be Straightened' right through to the climactic carcophony that is 'How I Desire', it never loses your attention. Rich in texture and styles, there's a surprise on every track.

loved it

more please!

5.0 out of 5 stars Smiling for days!, 31 Mar 2007
By Mr. Rhodri J. Thomas "rod-thomas" (London) - See all my reviews

Bass Clef is one of those acts that you see live and you're completely blown away, so you have no idea how that will translate onto CD.

Thankfully, he's one of those rare cases where the magic of his live set is still very much alive on record, and 'A Smile Is A Curve...' is just pure pleasure from start to finish.

A bit like a treasure trove with loads of layers, samples, beats and bits and pieces going on. Tracks like 'Hilda' and 'Opera' are amazing, and really demonstrate Bass Clef's talent for mixing styles and creating something rather wonderful. It's a great album from start to finish and something crops up to keep your attention all the way through.

Made me smile so much. Great title too!
