5.0 out of 5 stars reasonating dubstep poetry of the highest order, 15 April 2008
By Mr. S. Harvey "Stanley" (Southampton, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Kode 9 has for over a decade now, been at the forefront of the underground urban music scene in the UK. He is highly regarded by many in the ever-enlarging dubstep community, cited as one of the most innovating producers in the world. His roots, like many of his peers, lie in Old School Jungle, UK Garage and 2 step. This collaboration with The Spaceape, a visual artist and poet, was the second album to be released on his own Hyperdub label in 2006. The record, although unlike the dubstep you may have raved to on the dance floor, will leave you stunned by Kode9's perfectly timed, often minimal beats as he expertly weaves his own poetry around The Spaceape's masterful lyricism. It is not an album you can listen to lightly and there are no fillers. With each and every glorious track you will find beauty and profound musical achievement. It is impossible for me to pick out stand out tracks, just buy the album and you will find your favorites changing as your perception of the record deepens with each listen. As the dubstep scene continues to revolutionize, this is one of the few records that transcends the decay of time. I am almost certain, that when we come out the other side of this peaking dubstep culture, this album will still be cited as one of the genre's finest accomplishments.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dubstep album, 10 Jan 2008

An interesting blend of poetry and dubstep.
This is my first dubstep album and I think it's really good. I'm still getting used to the speed (from dnb!).
Nine Samurai is my favourite tune on the album as it mixes old trumpets with a kinda clashing beat. Check it out on the web.. I'm sure there's a video out there! ;)
Overall the album sounds like a reggae beefburger with a slice of electronica, frontlined with a jamaican poet ticklingly pouring words over it like tomato ketchup! haha! :) I apologise for the naff metaphors, but honestly it's a quality album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Immense, 7 Dec 2008
By K. J. Sweetingham Clarke "Charlie" (UK, London) - See all my reviews

In my opionion the best dubstep album ever made. Compariable to Warrior Dubz and Fabricclive 37 this really is a completely differnt sound that is utterly infectious.. At one point I was completly addicted to this album.

Play it anywhere. It sounds great. Buy it, support the artist. They need the credit for this album
