5.0 out of 5 stars Unrepentant pretty Things, 30 Oct 2007
By Keith Barber (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews

If you are old enough to remember the Pretty Things and I am you will enjoy this DVD. Ok so they look older but they can still play. The sound is good and for a DVD filmed probably on a small budget it is well worth buying. If you do not buy this I would recommend the CD S.F.Sorrow,a masterpiece. There are songs from the CD on the DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretties still on song, 2 Feb 2008
By Alick Jeffery was king (Derbyshire Dales, UK) - See all my reviews
For a band that seems constantly to bemoan the lack of financial reward, Phil May, Dick Taylor et al amazingly keep bouncing back with vital and enjoyable music. May and Waller's voices have changed little over the years - a very, very good thing - meanwhile the musicianship is as high as ever. Frank Holland (a band newcomer of a brief 13 years at the time of recording) beefs up the guitar sound but Dick taylor, an original Rolling Stone and Pretty Thing, can still cut the mustard. The Pretties have contributed magnificently over the years. Starting out as a raw R'n'B band they graduated via excellent rock opera and psychedelic chef d'oeuvres to straightahead rockers in the mid 70's on Led Zepp's Swansong label. All phases of their long career are covered here on DVD and accompanying cd which makes this a bargain package. Whilst this will probably appeal most to baby boomers, young guns should also marvel at the longevity and stamina of one of Britain's finest bands - ever. I doubt the Dirty Pretty Things will achieve as much or be remotely remembered 40 years on - never mind be able to rock like Phil and the boys at 60 plus.

4.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing, raw and hugely enjoyable, 18 Feb 2009
If you're a Pretty Things fan and don't have this then stop right here and order it. It's great - a joy to watch and something to immerse yourself in and ponder back to when there was no posing and people could actually play as a group and enjoy themselves.
