These symphonies of Bach's second son, known as examples of the Empfindsamer Style (Changing emotionalism and changing musical expression within a work, which presaged Romantisicm) are here played with great care, wit and feeling. Both dynamicaly and melodically these symphonies are well represented by these performances.
The cello concerto is a jewel of deep emotionalism with well executed phrasing and deep rich tones. Highly recommended.

Manze and the English Concert are on fine form in these brisk and exhilirating performances. The cello concerto is particularly good. This partnership is shaping up to be a worthy successor to the classic Pinnock/English Concert/Archiv cds. Worth investigating.
