Manufacturer's Description

Norton AntiVirus 2007 blocks viruses and spyware with advanced protection. It helps protect your entire computer by preventing viruses, spyware and other security risks from harming your system. It's always working in the background so you can surf the Internet, read the news, play games, and download software or music, knowing you are being protected. And when you exchange files via email or instant messaging (IM), Norton AntiVirus scans and cleans all attachments, whether they're compressed or not, preventing you from receiving viruses on your computer, or spreading them to others.

Even if your computer is already infected, Norton AntiVirus is the ideal solution. It is designed to detect and remove viruses, spyware, and other security risks during installation. With set-it and forget-it functionality, it checks for updates continuously and automatically blocks new and emerging threats from getting on your system. You can also set automatic scans to detect and remove hidden viruses or spyware. In addition to protection updates, Norton AntiVirus provides new product features as available throughout your service subscription. So to keep your computer protected from viruses and spyware, choose Norton AntiVirus 2007.

1.0 out of 5 stars OK for computer newbies who've bought machines more powerful than they need, but pros should avoid like the plague, 10 Jul 2007
By A. Eastham "andy19048" (Swindon, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Norton anti-virus used to be the de-facto antivirus system I recommended to everyone. 2004 was great, but when I upgraded to 2006, things started to slow down. However, when I upgraded to the bloatware that is 2007, things got really bad. I had loads of blue screens (more than 1 per day at first). After a few weeks of this, they released a patch which reduced the blue screens to one per week, which seemed great after what went before. I even convinced myself I had a memory bug, even though no memory checking software could find it, and WinDbg always pointed to the Norton Redirector being to blame. After much research I ditched the 18 months left of my NAV subscription and went to ESET NOD32. Much hard graft a registry deleting later, I managed to get rid of AV from hell. WOW! Suddenly it was like I had a new PC - things speeded up no end. I only got one more blue screen, but that was due to a bit of the Norton auto update that had refused to uninstall. I deleted that and now have a clean, fast PC again. Norton Antivirus used to be a great product, but now, like McAfee, only survives due to hype, marketing and (deteriorating) reputation. The product quality is far inferior to today's competition. I've heard of quite a few other people who've ditched Norton even though they had a lot of paid for subscription left. Certainly, nothing with the name "Norton" or "Symantec" is ever getting installed on any of my machines ever again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Highly expensive and inadequate, 12 Dec 2006
By T. Brown (Crawley, UK) - See all my reviews

I have found Norton Anti-virus to be continually unreliable over the years, and very expensive considering that once your download time runs out you have to pay to renew it. I now use AVG free edition which doesn't crash my PC, doesn't take up resources, and actually finds all viruses. It picked up many viruses on my PC that Norton had been ignoring all this time. I found the same issue on the PCs of several friends too and insisted that they don't pay for Norton's anti-virus when AVG or Avast are better, and most importantly, free with unlimited free updates.

Norton isn't good enough, costs too much and constantly requires people to cough up money for upgrades.

5.0 out of 5 stars improved virus scanner, 9 Nov 2006
Norton Anti Virus can now be upgraded to the last '2007' edition providing even better protection. I want to point out the two features that I found most impressive: Protection from root kits (infamous DRM 'feature' of certain music CDs) and scans for email attachments that you send rather than receive.

The former preventing your PC from being turned into a drone for hackers or spammers, the latter turning you into a more reliable and trustworthy user for others. With the increasing relevance of e-mail it seems important to me that my e-mails can be trusted to be virus free!
