Product Description

Director's cut of Takashi Shimuzu's supernatural chiller. 'The Grudge' is the curse of one who dies in the grip of a powerful rage. Karen (Sarah Michelle Gellar) is an exchange student working for a Japanese medical centre. Covering for another nurse she attends to an old American woman, Emma, and while there unknowingly uncovers the source of the curse. Each time the curse finds a new victim, it is reborn. Karen must somehow escape the fits of rage and madness to avoid certain death.

From Amazon.co.uk

It's not the scary hit that The Ring was in 2002, but The Grudge makes a similarly convincing case for American remakes of popular Japanese horror films. Barely a year passed between the release of Takashi Shimizu's creepy ghost story Ju-On: The Grudge and the production of this American remake, set in Tokyo and starring Sarah Michelle Gellar in her first post-Buffy horror film. About the only significant difference between the two films is the importing of a mostly-American cast (including Bill Pullman, Clea DuVall and Grace Zabriskie), but The Grudge was reconfigured (by screenwriter Stephen Susco) to allow Shimizu to refine and improve the spookiest highlights of his earlier version, which enjoyed previous incarnations as a short film and two made-for-Japanese-video features. Surprising box-office analysts with a $40 million opening weekend, The Grudge may disappoint hard-core horror fans because it lacks gore and graphic violence, but as a creepy tale about a very haunted house, it's guaranteed to send a few chills up your spine. --Jeff Shannon

I enjoyed this movie and have actually watched it a couple of times since owning the DVD. It has a good story line which keeps you engaged and it's definitely scary! Lot's of suspense and parts that will make you jump. I haven't seen all of the original Japanese version but this seems like a good re-make to me.

my title says it all,not sure what it is,acting, camera work etc but what ever they've done, this version I find scarier than the Japanese version,I think it's down to the editing,as the 'shocks' do come at you unannounced, which as a horror fan is exactly what you want.

After watching the original Japanese version, I instantly wanted to see the American remake. I don't get scared by horror films, so i predicted it to be ok. But it was actually ok. There are some cheap jump scares, and some genuinely scary parts. Like the part where the the social worker enters the loft at the begging. I won't spoil it for you. I just wish there were those full on scares that scare you at night.
Overall, I would give it four stars. I might consider the sequel, but then again, most sequels are disappointing.

I watched this with my mate,we spent the whole movie terrified !the ghost was hideous ! what made this so genuinley scary was that you only caught glimpses of the ghost and that terrible noise it made, then when it came down the stairs it made my blood run cold! truly a master piece of horror !
